"Ferrari Jo's" 48M baht Lambo was at center of import tax avoidance case, says DSI

Pol Lt-Col Korawat Panpraphakan of the Department of Special Investigation spoke to Sanook regarding the case of the Lamborghini Aventador owned by former police chief of Muang Nakhon Sawan Thitisan Uthanaphon.

 

The man known as "Ferrari Jo" has dozens of top of the range luxury cars despite having a station chief's salary of 43,330 baht.

 

He has surrendered on charges that he was involved in the murder in custody of a drug suspect earlier this month.

 

One of the jewels in the crown of Jo's Auto Collection was the Aventador with reports that he was the first in Thailand to own such a vehicle.

 

Korawat said that the car was worth 48 million baht and the DSI got involved after it was determined that the full value of the vehicle was not declared in an attempt to avoid import duty.

 

He said that eight people have been named in the case but none of them are former chief Thitisan. 

 

He just bought the car and was the first owner though the documents were subsequently changed.

 

The case resulted in the state losing out on 31 million baht in tax and was sent to the public prosecutor in August of 2019 but is still under consideration.

Jo the blow has had it. Not because he is a criminal in law, or because the people think he is a sleaze bag but because of jealousy from others with less padded brown envelope.

That's the problem they face with cases like this. Once they start to scratch the surface, the extent of the dirtbaggery from top to bottom becomes abundantly clear and many others are implicated. People start to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

 

That's the reason that they only act when absolutely forced to i.e. when CCTV footage of the actual killing makes it onto social media. They'd much rather sweep the whole thing under the carpet but alas, it's too late for that now.

 

Will be interesting to see how all this plays out. Personally I'm surprised they didn't let him escape the country, seize his assets and then pretend to chase him for 10 years like they did with Boss.

It will be found that they were producing a training video and it was all staged even the death, arrests and all else is fake news. Chief Joe actually Ives in a shack and drives a 1988 Honda Click....

It beggars belief that to absolute audacity and the amount the property owned by these corrupt officials does not seem to be even on the horizon of being suspect when they are on such minimal incomes.

They do it with impunity, and no one raises an eyebrow.

The real question that need to be asked is How did it to where it is now whereby everybody knew about this man unusual wealth and no one did nothing about it until now? surely the man didn't amassed all these possessions overnight right? so where were all those who were suppose to be the guardians i.e. his superiors,  that such things will not happen?...

Maybe that this will become so big that the crimes will become diluted and the news saturated and all of a sudden something else comes along (such as reopening the country or pubs) and the public focus their attention elsewhere.

I know it's not on the same scale but that Sorayuth fella is back on tv now, isn't he? That's just one example.

So in the end he got the car for peanuts, even though the car is worth a lot more. and on what amount, if any, did Joe pay the import tax? Jo seems to have good friends (accomplices) in the customs office. And at the prosecutor's office, the files are gathering dust as usual.

Quite a tax on imported cars in Thailand.....over 300% on luxury vehicles I believe.

I remember the case with a truck transporting very expensive cars burning out in Pak Chong one highway.
No one ever claimed the insurance.
The truck was hired by a hi-so person from Kalasin.
Wonder if the little rat had anything to do with that.

Typical Thai trait , can't see anything, don't know anything, why - not my problem, doesn't affect me, I can't do anything about it, etc.
