Seems some have ignored the fact that her original flight is not until the 15th. So there is time to look at alternatives. Unfortunately, some here have just used it as an opportunity to vent about their own unhappy lives. Some don't even seem to have bothered to properly read the newspaper article. Perhaps her parents should give her the £2300, after all, she has said she is likely to lose her graduate position. Surely, if her parents cared enough, this would be no problem at all. Her comment that £2300 would bankrupt her is disingenuous at the best, unless her parents didn't give a stuff and refused to lend/give it to her. Parents are supposed to look after their children, aren't they?

Dont confuse me
I don't think the young lady in question has actually thought this through. It's going to cost her 102,000 THB to quarantine in uk. Depending on her employment and her parents bank balance, that's probably a good deal versus spending an unknown period in Thailand, perhaps she should get an insight into Thai culture. Take the cost of visa's and the scams associated with them, the cost of half decent accommodation and food etc she's going to do 100k a month easy. Good luck! Please, go back to the article and show us mere mortals the bleating and whinging, the confirmation of lack of funds and where you think they have made a poor decision and are suffereing. My friend who has been here since the Samui plus does not have the money to pay out on a quarantine hotel in the UK at the cost of over 2 grand ..so will is stay here and will keep getting visa extensions . he has done the 3 tests and had 2 jabs back in the UK

What happens if a traveler does not pay? Are they still dragged off to quarantine and kept there until they pay? Are they kept there and then let go after the designated time but sent a bill? Again, what if they don't pay the bill? Are they taken to court and sued? Or must one put funds in escrow before being allowed to travel to the UK? Cake Monster
The UK placing Thailand onto a Red List will certainly ring alarm bells around the World for any potential Tourists. This story will say to many of a sane mind, that maybe our own Governments may also do exactly the same as the UK, and we could be in exactly the same situation. Unless " Tourists " are returning to Thailand as Thai Nationals that are repatriating, or as " Tourists " that are returning to Family or Business's after being locked out of the Country, they will need to be well heeled and very flexible about their time frames. This will effectively almost kill off any hopes Thailand had to reopen unfortunately until they have got their act together and made it back to the Amber List., which could be several Months down the line.

Simple as that. But people just can't help themselves. They know the risk but choose to play Russian Roulette, and sometimes they lose. There's a pandemic on. Wait, for crissake! Thailand will still be there in a year or two. Shops and other venues might even be open then for you to enjoy. Imagine that.

These measures simply don't make sense The read list exists for one reason only and it's not about case numbers, it's about new variants of COVID. When new variants are detected they attempt to keep them out for as long as possible. New variants have been detected in Thailand already, apparently they're inconsequential so far but they don't appear to be taking risks these days. They will continue to mutate - this is why Thailand was added to the red list.
