Can anyone recommend a good agent near Khon Kaen for help with marriage visa extension of stay?

Think you will find that agent will suggest that you obtain extension based on retirement. More simple than marriage and much less requirements.

What's your situation currently. Meaning your current permission of stay is existing extension or.....?

Use an agent to obtain extension based on retirement. There are couple of well known agents in KK that have net sites and you can chat with them directly.

If you need to use an agent because you lack the required finances, switch to a retirement extension. The marriage extension is more difficult and, therefore, significantly more expensive.

I also need an agent in the Chiayaphuum area to obtain a Bank Account.

I would have the funds but opening the Bank account is a problem from what I found out today.

I will be returning New Year and posted today in the Issan Forum.

If any agents are available in the above area I would be grateful for a PM.

You don't qualify for an extension based on marriage.

Maybe dodgy ones will be closed down but I believe there are legitimate agents that because of their contacts can get things done without breaking any laws. It is my understanding (unconfirmed) that whether or not to grant an extension is up to the IO. They have their guidelines to follow but they can be flexible without breaking the law.

None of the examples you cited were "illegal". Point at anyone who was prosecuted for a crime related to any of them.

 

It is a fact that every legal operation ends eventually. In many cases, "eventually" is a long time in the future. I routinely advise anyone considering using agents without being able to meet the customary conditions for an extension that doing so does carry with it a small but real risk.

 

The reality is that, in Thailand, alternative ways of achieving desired results, one via strict adherence to published conditions, and one facilitating the process via presents to responsible officials, is pervasive throughout the system. Sometimes, the law as written is designed to facilitate this. As an example, most are unaware that, when paying most forms of tax in Thailand, there is a choice between following the regular process, or "alternative negotiated tax" where a senior official negotiates with the taxpayer (individual or company) to determine the tax which will be paid. I can assure you that the "alternative negotiated tax" system is specifically designed to offer a win-win solution for both the taxpayer and the senior official involved. What happens throughout the immigration system is less codified, but very much of a piece.

 

A massive crackdown on official corruption within Thailand may come at some stage, and could happen with little warning. The experience of Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew is a cautionary tale of what is conceivable. However, in reality, the risk is very low.
