A "new model" maybe....?

Let's assume you are a Farang living in Thailand. You have gotten older and so has your Thai wife.

While sitting on the front porch, enjoying a peaceful sunset, have you ever considered exchanging your current Thai wife for a "newer model"? Granted, that you would not suffer ruinous financial consequenses by doing so?

Or rather go the traditional Thai way: Get a Mia Noi on the side?

Or rather stay put and be satisfied with what you've got? Not wanting to go thru another round of this Love Circus at my age, with all it's up's and down's?

- I live near a registry office. I see many young happy newlyweds walking by. I often wonder, if they realise what life changing "contract" they just signed. Also: There is software available, that projetcts a current picture of a person up to the age of 65. Looking at the result, one might be more hesitant to swear "until death do us part".

PS: I consider this thread as "incomplete" until "GammaGlobulin" has voiced his opinion concerning this matter. ????

Just been shopping in Tops and Big C and I couldn't help noticing that even after 11 years together - she was still the hottest looking girl in the mall.  

 

She's aging so well, that by the time her looks may start to fade, my eyesight will be too dim to notice.  

 

I even snapped a few phone photos while she was browsing the fruit aisle, as I just liked the way she looked in her Thai standard denim shorts.

 

So no ..... I'll not be looking for a trade in

Mia Nois are longer term rentals. In rural Thailand short term rentals are possible but harder to come by.

I did. But most Farangs probably don't. Therefore the occasional "surprise-drama".

I wouldnt want to go through all that stuff again. If I felt the need it would be short term rental, rinse and repeat. Simple transaction no ties. They are readily available if you know where and how to look.

Mia noi is dangerous and threatening to the established relationship. (IMHO)

A Mia Noi situation can only be maintained with the approval of "the wife". Her stll remaining as the main beneficiary of the financial resources of the Farang.
To keep any Mia Noi situation secret in rural Thailand for any lenght of time is impossible.

I thought about such a new model. The big question is obviously if life with a new model would be better even after the first or second year. Or would it be necessary to get another new model again and again.

 

Most of the time I am happy with the existing model, I guess more than 90% of the time. And I guess it wouldn't be easy to find a new model with a higher happiness factor.  So for now I keep the existing model and sometimes I have a drink or two with a temporary replacement. ????

I would suggest that the Mia noi is more likely to become a problem because you are seeing the same female, building a relationship and thereby an increasing threat to the stability of Mia Luang.

Whereas a short term or one night stand is no threat at all its a simple transaction and finished. Big difference in those scenarios and the latter is no long term threat at all.

Yep. Will the "new model" be better than the old. Only time will deliver the answer.

Funny, 5 years ago my Thai wife and I divorced, strictly for financial reasons. (Long story). In the meantime we are the best of friends. Much closer than we ever were before.

Right on. The problems start when the Mia Luang starts to feel threathend  in (mostly) a financial way.  This will likeky turn the entire "Thai-Family" aginst the Farang. In rural Thailand, this is probably the worst situation that a Farang can find himself in. Unless his main financial resources have never been "locked-in" in Thailand.

Obviously you are right. But for whatever reason do most wives and long term girlfriends don't understand this simple concept.

The OP puts me in mind of 2 cases.

The first was at an airport when I saw an elderly white man with an elderly Indian lady that I took to be his wife. She was probably a great beauty when he married her, but when I saw them, his revulsion at just being with her was patently obvious.

The second was a western friend that married a Singaporean girl and took her to his country. When he was courting her she was a lovely vivacious woman that any western man would be proud to have as a wife. Many years later I met him again and he invited me to their home. It was obvious that he could barely have her in the same room. I don't know what happened to change the lovely girl into the cowed, sad woman she became, but it was so very sad to see what became of their marriage. To be clear, the guy was not a bad man, and I can't imagine him physically abusing her.

 

However, none of us would ever get married if we knew it would turn to <deleted>, would we?

And why are most guys interested in pretty young girls? Because they want to talk about school or university? No!
