BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul said he has reached an understanding with a Bhumjaithai Party member who voiced disagreement with the appointment of former National Security Council (NSC) head Gen. Natthapol Nakpanich to head the forward command for the administration of COVID-19 issues in the Deep South.

Bhumjaithai member Suphachai Jaismut earlier expressed his disagreement over the appointment on his Facebook, arguing that the unit should be led by doctors instead of the former NSC chief.

In his capacity as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, Mr. Anutin said he clarified to Mr. Suphachai that national security concerns were also involved in Covid affairs, which were not the sole responsibility of doctors. He said controlling the situation efficiently would allow medical personnel to best access patients and also benefit the administering of Covid vaccines.

The party leader added that Suphachai has been asked to first seek his input before expressing views. He said the establishment of a forward command for the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) would involve many agencies working for the benefit of the public.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon avoided expressing his opinion on this issue, saying only that understanding has been reached with Bhumjaithai Party.

Deputy Interior Minister Niphon Bunyamanee said the southern border provinces are a special area that requires collaboration from every side, especially in creating understanding among the public about the vaccination. He noted that breaches of disease control restrictions were still ongoing, such as people leaving their homes when they should stay in isolation.

It's that or a concrete overdose.

When the first response to a crisis is to send a general you know you have a problem.
