Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the spokesman, said Gen Prayut was satisfied with the report that over the past month 909,937people registered for travel subsidies under the third phase of the program and reserved 1,296,872 rooms at 4,113 hotels. Blumpie
If I lived in Thailand I"d be happy too. Particularly without tens of thousands of chinese swarming all you can eat restaurants. If I was Thai I wouldn't be too happy about it but hey, that's just an opinion. I'm white as a ghost here and all signs so far state that's the way I'll stay all winter. Edited November 23, 2021 by Blumpie
Popular Post Pib
Yea, the We Travel Together program is domestic tourism plan for Thais only....it's basically a travel discount/subsidy program. It's not international tourist related. https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG210922225248174

I manage a large hotel in the far north, over 200 rooms. I can tell you beyond any doubt the recovery is a myth conjured by TaT. We've not had a foreigner check in since April last year. We have actually fully reopened, but it's domestic Thais desperate for a break, and offices of the civil service using our meeting facilities and having a company jolly at the tax payer's expense... The irony of all this is that there has never been a better time to holiday in Thailand. My family and I have had 2 wonderful luxury beach holidays during the pandemic that we'll remember forever. Empty beaches, deserted coasts. It's like I imagine Thailand would have been in the 50's before mass air travel. In a way I have the pandemic to thank for that. We never really had many foreigners here anyway, excepting bus loads of Chinese churn and burn groups at bottom Dollar, and lord knows I could live without them. ChaiyaTH
Such great recovery, those still open are into their necks in debt and one additinal wave (as occured everywhere after mass vaxx) blows them. Keep dreaming of a 18M (50% recovery) during next year. Edited November 23, 2021 by ChaiyaTH

They can come up with all these figures at the drop of a hat it's truly amazing, just like the number of Krathongs collected and inspected in less than 24 hours after the event the can give you an exact figure. How long did it take to count the election votes though? Hmmm... 2

ThailandRyan
When I tried to book my hotel in Hua Hin by phone they asked me if I had a travel voucher. I asked them Does the Centara Grand participate in the scheme. The answer was if course up to a certain amount. So the folks using subsidies are now able to stay at a 5 star accommodation instead if a lower class 3 star resort. Amazing Thailand. Farmerslife
I had a couple of weeks in Bangkok, stayed at a hotel, ate out, even managed a sneaky beer or two. Though it should be regarded it as an 'internal transfer' so to speak. Instead of spending my money for that fortnight in Pak Chong I was spending it in Bangkok. I wonder if a few other people were distorting the figures like me?

Cake Monster
This money is cash that is just circulating around the Economy. It therefore adds nothing to the actual GDP Any money spent by the 60,000 ? Tourists since the start of November, will do very little to add to the GDP of the Nation in terms of actual new money I just dont get why Prayut is happy, its just the same money going round on the spin cycle.
Nojohndoe
I wonder if the VAT take on the internal cash turnover exceeds the cost of this Domestic Tourism scheme?

NoshowJones
PM Happy with Tourism Recovery. Of course he is, his personal income stream has probably increased, while the bar owners, restaurants, and all the other businesses have had their incomes decreased or lost altogether.
