Bakery Collision in Samut Prakan Leaves Mother and Son Unscathed - video
Photo via Channel 7 A Thai woman and her young son narrowly escaped injury when a 64-year-old driver mistakenly crashed her sedan into a bakery in Samut Prakan province, just outside Bangkok. The incident, which took place at 8.39am on March 24, was captured on CCTV and quickly went viral, with viewers expressing relief that the mother and child were unharmed. In the footage, the Bakerlicious bakery worker was cleaning while her son walked towards her. Shortly after he passed the shop’s front door, a grey sedan ploughed into the store, shattering the glass and hitting a product shelf. The car's front wheel kept spinning as if the accelerator had been pressed instead of the brake, but fortunately, the product shelf and a structural pillar halted the vehicle. The mother and son, visibly shaken, were seen hugging on the right side of the shop, with the mother repeatedly checking if her son was alright. Both escaped without injury. The shop owner told journalists from Sanam Khao Mueang Prakan that the driver, a neighbouring 64-year-old food vendor, was also unhurt but deeply shocked by the incident. The driver explained that in a moment of error, she intended to reverse but mistakenly shifted into drive, causing the unintended forward movement. While the driver's insurance is set to cover the damages, the bakery owner has already replaced the glass door at a cost of 18,000 baht and plans to claim reimbursement later. The incident sparked debate online, with some criticising the driver's age and others countering that driving capability should be assessed based on health and vehicle condition rather than age. Notably, Thailand does not impose a legal age limit for drivers, adding to the conversation about safe driving practices, reported The Thaiger. -- 2025-03-26
