Thailand on Wednesday (December 15) reported 3,370 new COVID-19 cases, 4,557 recoveries and 29 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 3,259. Prisons: 111

▶︎ Recoveries: 4,557

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 2,149,413

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 2,083,275

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,178,2766 with 21,260 deaths.

The news comes as the Public Health Ministry expects the country to record more Omicron cases in the middle of January.

Dr. Somsak Akksilp, director-general of the ministry’s Department of Medical Services, said that as Omicron cases were spreading overseas and Britain recorded a fatality caused by the new COVID-19 variant, he thought that Thailand would have more Omicron cases after New Year, possibly in the middle of January.

I'm not sure if this is correct. What I'm seeing is died with Omicron not from Omicron. If I'm correct then this is alarmist fake news.

At least one person in the UK has died with the Omicron coronavirus variant, the prime minister has said.

Not sarcastic at all. All in-patients are screened as would be expected. There is a big difference between Omicron being the cause of death and the patient having Omicon at time of death. More still needs to come out but it is seeming more and more likely that Omicron is mild when symptomatic and often it's asymptomatic.

Actually if you get hit by a bus while having covid in the last 28 days then you do go on one list but it’s separate to the other main official list where you are listed as dying with one of the causes being covid and there is no time limit to that one, it can be over 28 days.

COVID-19 News  Two doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine provide 70% protection against being admitted to hospital with the Omicron coronavirus variant, according to the first realworld analysis of protection against severe disease with the new strain in South Africa.

But the defence offered against Omicron is lower than the 93% protection provided against the Delta variant, the report from Discovery Health, the largest private healthcare provider in South Africa found.

Infection data for today are as follows

Total New PCR Infections = 3,370

Total positive cases (ATK/Antigen) = 1,348

Total New Death = 29

Total New Recovery = 4,557

Total Infection including PRC & ATK = 4,718

Total infections so far since outbreak = 2,178,276

Total deaths so far since outbreak = 21,260

Total in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) = 1,018

Total number on life support (ventilator) 277

The government’s data on ‘Positive testing’ numbers as a percentage of the tests it undertakes stands @ 7.02% as of December 14.

Virologist advises delaying dose 4 pending info on new variants, arrival of new vaccines

Thailand’s top virology expert, Dr Yong Poovorawan, says people should delay getting a fourth dose of a Covid-19 vaccine until absolutely necessary. Yong advises holding off, pending further research into emerging variants and the development of second-generation vaccines.

That positivity rate if accurate is the lowest it’s been since the start of this wave so good news. As noted in the OP Omicron expected here soon. WHO issued a warning last night that is spreading throughout the world at an unprecedented rate and probably in all countries by now, although it just has not been sequenced in them.

No charts today, internet at home dodgy so on my ipad

Great work.

Well he can't be too wrong.  Let the vaccines get the efficacy and antibodies built up first before boosters. 3 months seems like an awful short period to give a booster for AZ and the MRNA vaccines.

Sinovac shot offers inadequate shield from Omicron variant, says HK study

HONG KONG (BLOOMBERG) - The vaccine made by Sinovac Biotech, one of the most widely used in the world, does not provide sufficient antibodies to neutralise the Omicron variant, said Hong Kong researchers in initial lab findings that may have sweeping consequences for the millions of people relying on the Chinese shot to protect them against Covid-19.

Won't be pleasant reading for our resident TVF epidemiologists.

Looks like the CCP could be in a world of trouble.

What a pity.

This measures antibodies only. Of more importance in the long run is T cell protection.

With any of the vaccines, we could write the same.

Totally rubbish as an article.

Its an article yes, based on a study by microbiologist Yuen Kwok Yung, a highly respected professor in infectious diseases at the University of Hong Kong. I agree with T cell protection but until there has been much more time elapsed that is a figure that is impossible to tell.

So if it's impossible to tell the article shouldn't be making such claims in all honesty. In fact all the vaccines seem to offer T cell immunity similar to natural infection.

Perhaps articles of this kind should specifically state 'antibody immunity', which would indeed be true.  We've had the same headlines levelled at both Pfizer and AZ, but it appears they still remain 70-80% effective against severe disease.

Why, when vaccine trials are carried out the results are given through anti body levels.

Its making genuine claims on the anti bodies same as this UK report did from the Health Security Agency:

Omicron has vaccine evasion properties, AZ is down to 0% after 100 days and Pfizer is down to just 30%

Read what he actual experts say:
