Pravda
Some hotels are starting to charge extra guest fee. I'm talking ihg in particular. Never liked this chain, but stayed quite a lot in Crowne Plaza in bangers. Probably my favorite hotel. Just to make sure I checked Holiday Inn express at Siam. Extra guest fee is almost $30. Their price is now higher than high season pre covid. Edited December 16, 2021 by Pravda 4

Popular Post KhunLA
Did they not always have that policy. Trying to enforce it is another thing. Don't know how they can, or who would pay, if reservation is booked for 2 guests. Hotels are usually per room in Thailand, not per person.
Popular Post jackdd
Just book through a platform like agoda, then no problem because you book a room for 2 people
Popular Post HashBrownHarry
A lot of the higher end hotels have always had this policy, it's nothing new. 10

I have never seen this policy in Thailand and I stayed in a lot of hotels here. In Japan most definitely, but never here. Anyway I did try booking through Agoda and indeed there is no extra guest fee. How odd. 5
WEBBYB808
Welcome back to the Sausage fest. This was normal practice before covid. Everything about a certain culture is about exploitation of the customer, and a hand out. Is this your first time in the LOS? 3

Popular Post Lancashirelad
All 5* and many 4* hotels have always charged joiner fees. As others have said, the way around it is to ensure the room is booked for 2 people. A hotel concierge told me this on one of my first visits to Bangkok (almost 20 years ago). If, upon check in, they enquire where the second person is, I just say "My partner will be joining me later". 5

I am that person. And I know a couple of good hotel who give the service charge 100% to the people who work there (the normal people, not the management). But I also mentioned that obviously I don't know all hotels or even many hotels. I know from one 5 star hotel in Bangkok that they had at the back building entrance every month a comparison of about ten 5 star hotels in Bangkok and how much each hotel paid in service charge. The last time I saw this the monthly service charge for each person was about 10k to 15k per month in all those hotels. I am pretty sure professional hotels from international chains wouldn't do that. But again, I obviously don't know all of them.
Popular Post Led Lolly Yellow Lolly
As a hotelier I find these topics endlessly amusing. Aside from the fact posters who are apparently long term residents in Thailand stating prices in Dollars rather than Baht (really???) I'm tickled by the attitude of farang guests. For example, we STILL get farang guests trying to check in without a passport. They try to dictate the law to my staff. They are shown the door, we keep the money. The law is the law, take it or leave it. . . I guarantee you, someone will comment below to tell me I'm wrong and a driver's license is fine. Frikking hilarious. About guests that try to sneak extra 'joiners' without paying for them. Your also see them try to ponse a free breakfast for their 'joiner'. . . There are rules that licensed hotels have to follow for guest registration, overcrowding, fire regulations etc etc. Hotel licenses are costly to obtain and maintain, and even more costly to lose. Hotels are also private enterprise, not public spaces. You should respect house policies when booking and checking in. Many hotels indeed try to discourage a certain guest profile by making their guest policy unattractive to those guests. . . Personally if I go to some nice hotel with my family and sit in the restaurant, I feel like I made a mistake if it's full of farang guys and their obvious bar trash, it's cringeworthy to see. I'd rather the same customers stayed away from my hotel. I'm a snob and they lower the tone. Wait until the ' influencers ' contact you asking for freebies in return for a favorable review. They claim to have xxx thousand subscribers and will get these people to look you up if only you will give them your product for free, whatever it is. I had so many of these losers after me that I now just send them a copy and paste job advising them to get a real job if they want a secure income.

If so, it's entirely reasonable you be charged extra for turning up with someone else. 1

Maybe it's some kind of a glitch. 1
