Cost of testing positive when arriving if have SSO

Featured Replies

I'm on holiday in the uk and have got covid. I'm due to fly back to thailand in 10 days.

From research I've found it's possible for pcr tests to show positive for weeks after getting it, although its 50-50 for 10 days after infection.

So I'm trying to work out the risk of testing pcr negative before my flight then positive when arriving in Thailand (they do love to stick the swab in deep over there!).

If it happens, I've got SSO, but does anyone know how much the cost would be for the circus I'd have to do for treatment, hotel for 14 days?

Note: haven't got enough days left to get 14 day recovery certificate

Why not move your flight forward!?

Yeah thats the 'play it safe' option. Would cost me 7 days and about 16,000 thb.

I'm just trying to evaluate the potential costs of the higher risk option of taking my scheduled flight. If it was all covered by SSO then I'd go for it.

The question is, if SSO covers it, do you want to go that way. It's not going to be a fancy hotel or hospitel, it'll most likely be a government hospital or facility with miserable conditions and food. If you want to pay for a hotel or hospitel, it will cost you a lot more than 16,000. My friend who had COVID continued testing positive with a PCR test for 2 weeks after first testing positive, even with no symptoms at all.

Those are fair points thanks. I think I'll pick up some insurance if I do manage to pass the pcr this side.

take with you hospital paperwork, but don't show it in thailand until you test positive.

In thailand they do require from patients 14 days self isolation after the last negative test.

In that case you are covered by sso for hospital or hospitel, for as long as needed.

Maybe they would let you go after 7 days.

you can take travel insurance, in case you can't fly.

Thanks a lot for your advice! Do you have a source for the SSO covering hospital/hospitel? I feel it's not been explicitly stated anywhere.

I picked up some insurance today but have since realized they probably would invalidate me for having a "pre existing condition".
