Cannabis and kratom completed their long journeys to legalization this year, in what was seen as an uncharacteristically liberal move by conservative Thai authorities. Given that alcohol and cigarettes remain tightly controlled in Thailand, these once-banned herbs have come a long way in a short space of time.

The newly amended Narcotics Code, which went into effect on December 9, lists neither cannabis nor kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) as illicit drugs. These herbs are now being touted for their huge potential in helping both patients and the Thai economy.

The change in their status has much to do with the efforts of Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, whose Bhumjaithai Party made legalization of cannabis a key election promise.

cannabis without THC is like beer without alcohol. pointless.

  • I can drive my m/c past the police station without wearing a helmet. If they ain't assigned to do a drugs raid, you could probably smoke weed outside their station.

Is CBD available over the counter anywhere yet? Last time I looked was a few months ago and I could not find it.

Pretty sure not even medicinal cannabis is fully up and running yet little lone legally being able to have having a few Oscars at home and smashing the old hubbly bubbly smoke machine. I look forward to it though. ????

Yes, cannabis is legal, as long as it is below 0.2%  THC.

Oh, and it was grown under the supervision of a dozen different "authorities".

Note that there are two different "Acts" covering cannabis. Only one has been slightly modified.

The Narcotics Act 2522 (1979) and the Psychotropic Substances Act 2518 (1975).

The cheese'll probably give you more of buzz?

Medical cannabis oil, CBD and THC, is available at government hospitals with a prescription.

More fluff headline than anything.  Medicinal isn't going to give me the buzz I want at the price I'd want to pay.

Let me know when it's legal to light up surfside, then I'll be impressed.  Haven't tried kratom, as doesn't sound that interesting.

The daily “dosage” for the government THC oil is equivalent to about 1/100 of a gram of high grade bud from the California dispensaries.  I’ll let you figure out the price comparison.

That´s fake news! it´s not legal at all. Not as long as I can´t sit smoke it outside the police station.

Nonsense headline. Cannabis is only partially legal. In fact the law has changed very little.

Unless you are a "Friend Of Anutin" you'll be thrown in jail for growing or possession of ganja.  "Legal" only means for Anutin's buddies and the buddies of his buddies.  Not Anutin's buddy?  Prison for you!!!

Regarding Kratom.  Lord.  It's a nothing-burger.  Why have they been throwing citizens in prison all these years?

None of your comments are of any help or informative.

If you have Cannabis with 0.2% THC you can smoke their whole field without feeling something.

In Canada, 3+ years after legalization, buds at the weed shops average about 20% THC. Ounces currently start at about $70 Canadian, depending on the strain.

Canada is the land of cannabis now. In US one gram sells for $15 average compared to $3 in Canada. I would have moved to Canada but the place is damn cold.

Yes, competition has kicked in in Canada. Free market finally driving prices, some shops closing, lots of shops being bought out.

As for strength, i purchased a mg scale and use about 20mg for a reasonable dosage(for me).

To the champion who doesn't even know what he is talking about, it's 2022 when Cannabis becomes 100% legal in Thailand.

I did it many times, crime in front of cops house is a lot safer than anywhere else as nobody will report you.

I also smoke anywhere in BKK and Pattaya, only idiots are caught.

Spot index as of today:

U.S. $2.86 (USD) per gram

Canada: $3.87 (USD) per gram

But these sorts of comparisons are silly, and hardly relevant to the topic.

Actually only idiots smoke is a more common thought.
