Hundreds of public water dispensers in Bangkok to be removed

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is beginning to dismantling about 400 public water dispensing machines across the city, claiming that most of them are not working due to lack of maintenance, that they are an eyesore, obstructions on footpaths, and may contribute to the spread of COVID-19.

The dispensers were installed on footpaths about two decades ago by the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), in cooperation with the BMA and the private sector, to provide free drinking water to Bangkok residents and tourists. Most of them, however, no longer function.

On November 22nd, the Traffic and Transport Office of the BMA asked the MWA to dismantle all the machines within 30 days, otherwise the city administration would remove them and bill the MWA.

That just about sums up nearly everything that is constructed or installed here :+)

If they are going to go down this road they will have heaps of work ahead of them, the footpaths here in Pattaya are a joke, uneven, trees & sign posts in them, electrical power boxes, and quite a few roads don't even have footpaths ...................LOL

They should. The water is dirtier than my toilet water. And yes we tested a couple locations. Sad for the locals who depend on this basic need.

I think those who are in-charge of making sure that these things and other like them works should also be removed, Due to slacking on their jobs...

So maintenance was never considered?

At least they acknowledge their limitations. Those who can't do don't do and call it wisdom.

............................obstructions on footpaths .      Yes , motorbikes need more room !

A sane administration would fix those that are broken instead of removing the lot.

Yet more waste of money , but served there purpose,

someone will have had their cut.

Actually, that just about sums up nearly everything in existence here in Thailand, except, of course, the various orifices of the women and the ladyboys. Those orifices are extremely well maintained and always working splendidly, albeit at an exorbitant cost.

I always try the water fountains I pass by. I'd say 90% have no water.

How did you test, pjss in them? Who in their right minds would drink from them anyway (rhet)

What?  You really think that local Bangkok residents depend on those water dispensers as a basic need?   How have they been managing as most of the dispensers have been out of order for a long time, were all those Bangkok locals drinking imaginary water?.

Go on then, such as...?

Very sorry, but significant time constraints preclude me from listing examples with any degree of specificity. Assuming you are a long-time ex-pat, as I am, you can doubtless think of numerous possible responses to your query if sufficient contemplation and cogitation are devoted to the endeavour. Thanks very much for your reply.

Let me guess, some 100 million baht went lost when they were originally installed including the budget for maintenance. What is the logic of taking them away, the proper action would be fixing them up and maintaining them from today and onwards. I wonder how these people can live with themselves.
