December 28, 20214 yr France had 100000.oo cases the other day. A dirty, unhygienic and under vaccinated country like Thailand is guaranteed to have the same numbers if not more if they ever tested and counted correctly

Maybe there is a week's time lag from testing to entering the system? I suspect they are keeping the numbers low until after New Year, either through low testing numbers or deliberate manipulation. They want the numbers to support keeping the New Year period open for travel (I assume to throw a lifeline to domestic tourism) and then after that, they will have no choice but to let the true numbers be known. This will result in them re-introducing their favourite restrictions in early January, which of course will do little to stop the spread. Basically a replay of Songkran, shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted.
December 28, 20214 yr It will rip first or second week in janurary, a 4 week trailing EU UK this cant be stopped testing and high number of cases with lower hosp adms trending else where Only problem can Thailand afford a lockdown again having come from an 8 month most of 21 and still on a high baht. Was hoping for a return end of jan if it stays open.

It's almost as if people will be shopping and partying like they were before there was coronavirus. The common sense approach would be to minimise infection spread until such time as everyone has been vaccinated, including by vaccines not already in production that that is required, Meantime, mandatory vaccines, masks and social distancing are the best option.

December 28, 20214 yr more of the same is not helping the millions in poverty Omicron is a milder variant that cant be stopped unless everyone self isolates forever time to live 70%+ vaccinated, ecomony and mental health have equal importance, enough if you want to stay lockdown then up to you and good luck if you can afford it.
December 28, 20214 yr US Supreme Court is about to find itself on the wrong side of history and public opinion as it has decided to hear an injunction against the vaccine mandate. Oral arguments are slated for Jan 7 and is likely to be referred to the full bench. By this time, the pandemic will be totally out of control in tidal wave proportions. https://www.thepacker.com/news/industry/supreme-court-hear-covid-vaccine-mandate-arguments-january-7

I'll say it again, it's almost as if some people believe that businesses will do well if they open up with out of control virus infections. That's irrational. Airlines are cancelling flights because staff are sick, the same pattern is spreading throughout industry and even sporting teams. That also totally ignores the plight of hospitals where the national guard is being called in because nurses are overwhelmed and burned out.

December 28, 20214 yr From this article I don't see any evidence of Omicron cases "soaring". The figure they give is what we see everyday. Where's the beef?

We are told that it's less severe than Delta, is all. It's still causing hospitalizations and even some deaths, albeit at a lesser rate than previous variants, apparently.

The link you posted makes no such claim. There is also nothing to suggest that the next mutation would not be more dangerous.

December 28, 20214 yr if they're only going to test the critically ill that have friends/family to take them to hospital the figures should remain low
December 28, 20214 yr Popular Post I just seen the reason why the UK is having COVID spikes. They are still allowing Soccer or football games with huge crowds. What could possibly go wrong? Then there is the USA and Canada where some idiots, still think, that they will lose their freedom somehow, so will not get a vaccination. I even have a couple of stupid relatives who are holding out, and do not believe the news on TV, they only believe what they read or watch on their computers. I do hope that not too many people have to go to the hospitals if they catch COVID, but I believe that hospitals will be full for a lot of months yet, and if staff are quitting from the extra stress and many deaths that they all still see, that is going to affect hospitals in the future, when they are all looking for nurses. Maybe Omicron and the next variants will be less deadly, and I sure hope so.

Omicron is still highly transmissible — cases are doubling every two to three days in the US — and hospitalizations are bound to rise the more it spreads. "Even if Omicron is 'less severe,' people still do end up at the hospital," Jetelina said. "If a virus is moving through 330 million people, that small percentage can add up very quickly."
