6 infected tourists sought who left hotel on Koh Chang before COVID test results returned

A complaint was lodged yesterday (Friday) with police on Koh Chang, in Thailand’s eastern province of Trat, by the district communicable disease committee, seeking six Europeans tourists after they tested positive for COVID-19.

The tourists include two French men, two Polish men, one Swiss and a Norwegian.

Decha Pralomram, the deputy district chief, said that the tourists arrived on Koh Chang under the “Test and Go” program on January 4th and were given RT-PCR tests at the district hospital.

When the positive test results were returned, health officials tried to find them at their hotel, so they could be quarantined, but were told they had left.

This was day 5-7 repeat PCR. There is no T&G facility on the island. These men had fully complied with all terms of the T&G program, initially tested negative and been discharged from T&G hotel. They then travelled and reported as required for their day 5-7 test.

Apparently the hospital could not find them ( though I would not rule out negligence on the hospital's part in notifying them). They had simply changed hotels, not left the island. And were unaware they had tested positive.

I think the "complaint" was simply a request for police help in finding them. Which the police easily did , probably through the immigration database TM30 hotel report.

So what? Is this against the rules or something?

They can stay where they like surely?

Do they not ask for a phone number for urgent contact when the tests are done? I can't believe they don't - they ask for phone numbers for anything here - even if it doesn't need a phone number - it's always on the form.

Yep, you can surely put this down to extremely poor press reporting. They were just damned lazy in their attempts to over dramatise the events and should have their press cards removed. Where was "absconded", "man hunt", "police mobilisation", "dirty covid spreaders". Im not a journalist but I could have sensationalised this rather unnewsworthy incident 10 times better than their lethargic attempts. ????

The easiest way to deflect attention and, to some extent, control your own population is to play xenophobia card..We see it all over the world, where those in power, in order to maintain it, portretize foreigners as a near danger. It's not only a thai thing, it can be seen in Britain(under Brexit), US(Trumps policy), Scandinavian countries(where foreigners, be it eastern european workers or asylants, are described as grasshoppers), France, Italy, even eastern european countries, who had benefit from being EU members, there is now a powerful xenophobic wave, especially in Hungary, fuelled by, most likely, russian propaganda..List is ongoing.

Despicable. To demonise six tourists who had not done anything wrong. On national TV.

Did it take 7 days to show up on a test, or were they truly negative on day 1, then picked it up in the sandbox on day 2.

Well, only idiots can think that they can take an obligatory covid-19 test and then change address so health authorities cannot contact them directly to isolate them if results are positive. Even relaxed Sweden had the rule that you could go anywhere but you had to update the address with the health authorities when you moved.

We know that the tm30 process exists, tourists don't. It's irrelevant if they knew if they tested positive or not. It's just common sense.

I would suggest every tourist should get leg bracelet which give them 400 volts shock if they try to go beyond 30 sq m radius.

At this point I'm classifying this Topic as ClickBait.
