Charismatic cop Pol Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan has said that he is going after illegal fishermen.

 

The man known as Big Joke - once the poster boy of the RTP as deputy at the tourist police and head of immigration - had a tremendous fall from grace.

 

But now he has been rehabilitated as a kind of one man Flying Squad going where crime needs to be solved.

 

He has got involved in the IUU business - illegal, unreported, unregulated fishing. 

 

This after he was called in investigate the so-called ghost ship that was found abandoned then sank in the Gulf. 

 

Big Joke was at RTP HQ in Songkhla at the weekend after nineteen arrests and the seizure of five boats that had fake registered names at a dock, reported Daily News. 

 

He promised that he would do the bidding of his masters - PM Prayuth and DPM Prawit - and root out all illegality in connection with IUU.

Are all land's laws beakers under control already that now he want to go after sea going law breakers? what happen to the coast and marine police and the navy and other water policing bodies? not good enough to deal with illegal fishing?...

So Big Joke went trawling for the bad guys and netted a good catch.

Why not first go after those that murdered cops like Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya rather than fishermen? Clock is ticking after all & red bull will be free as usual

Probably not.... the immigration police and tourist police certainly had need of someone to stir them into action....no reason the  coast and marine police and the navy would be any better.

You forgot to mention he is the sole independent in the investigation and a dab hand. Can be relied upon not to flounder.

Please forgive my question, general, but may I ask how many among these 19 arrested people were actual boat ownesr or high-level fishing company executives? Or did the dragnet of yours only yield boat skippers and migrant worker crews as usual? You know... small fry or by-catch, as it's called in that particular industry.
