Mother fears son, 12 has been abducted - get's 12K ransom demand - don't pay, he'll lose a finger

A distraught Thai mother has gone to the Pratunam Chulalongkorn police in Rangsit north of Bangkok to report her son aged 12 missing since midnight on Saturday.

 

He left on a CBR motorcycle and has not been seen since. 

 

She said that she had received a text message that suggested he had been abducted and that if she wanted to see him whole again she needed to pay 12,000 baht.

 

She was told not to tell the police but promptly did just that.

 

She said that she was told that if the ransom was not paid they'd cut off one of his fingers, reported Sanook.

 

The case took another turn when it appeared that the missing boy may be elsewhere as a locator on his mother's phone suggested he might be in Nong Bua Lamphu in the north east. 

 

She said he had been wandering about outside their house before he disappeared on a motorcycle. 

 

Police investigations continue.

Interesting.  Don't hear too much about kidnappings in Thailand....not for ransom anyways.  I'll bet the kid saw a movie (All the Money in the World) and decided he needed some quick cash, so made-up this whole kidnapping story.  Should ask the mom if her son had asked for money recently.

Sounds like the boy is looking for some cash, maybe with the help of a mate,

would know the mother could only pay 12 K, why let the kid go out at 12.00

in the dark on a motorbike and been only 12 years old.. I think he will be back

Actually out in the sticks I do remember that kids were apparently stolen. But never for ransom, just trafficking.

Actually out in the sticks I do remember that kids were apparently stolen. But never for ransom, just trafficking. 

No, kidnapping for ransom is not a common occurrence in Thailand.  But this guy heard some gossip and is regurgitating it as fact.
