DPM Wissanu advises Thai public to wait to plant marijuana

Siam Rath reported on the continuing uncertainty over the exact legal situation regarding the Thai public planting marijuana in their homes.

After a cabinet meeting yesterday DPM Wissanu Krea-Ngam emerged to say that he had spoken to DPM and health minister Anuthin Charvirakul who told him that discussions were underway with the Narcotics Control Board.

This concerns the uncertainty between the MoPH and the NCB on the precise legality or otherwise of the plant after it and hemp were removed from Class 5 restrictions in the latest codes issued in December.

Reporters asked Wissanu who the public were to follow - the MoPH under ganja promoting Anutin or the NCB - and whether Thais should go ahead and plant marijuana.

Wissanu replied that they should hold off on planting just for now.

ASEAN NOW has been reporting almost daily on the issue and note that a meeting due today may provide some clarity.

Some have claimed that the wording of the latest codes was bungled creating the current mess.

This kerfuffle is amazing.

This guy is said to be the top legal mind in the country, and given his credentials

(WiKi)

He studied law at the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, graduating with an honours degree, and was admitted to the bar by the Thai Bar Association. He continued his studies in the United States, completing his Master of Laws (1974) and Doctor of Juridical Science (1976) from the University of California, Berkeley.

he is.

And he's essentially the AG.

And yet, he and his staff can't make a quick study of this issue and offer a firm recommendation.

What a joke.

Cannabis, as most know it, will not be legalized here.

If it is, I will eat my shoe, once the munchies kick in.

Just imagine the tranquility of this country if the culture changes from alcohol and methamphetamine to cannabis. There seems to be a lot of momentum behind the legalization of cannabis, and I understand the fast food industry is pushing hard for it.

Every Thai household in this part of the country already grows their own marijuana, including some police & local govt officials, so DPM Wissanu should just rubber stamp A Nut in's previous public comments and legalise it outright.

Might be better to hibernate, come out in 6 months when they may have made a decision.

But they say it's not a drug? This may be a way of lessoning the pain in all the road accidents we have and may create many more.

Oooh! Go wash their mouths out......

Thailand is approaching a policy akin to that of many American states and  European countries where to facilitate commerce in the new budding economy help is being offered to dealers. Perhaps free parking will be offered to street dealers to cut down on street crime.

Would you prefer to have anyone caught smoking a joint be arrested and go to jail?

Ummmm. If everybody is growing it then there is no need for dealers.

Problem solved! ????

They (Gov) screwed up the lock downs, took forever to order the vaccines, the distribution of injections was

mind blowingly awful, insane alcohol bans left & right, I still shake my head over what that was about, they promised the poor money handouts, they are still waiting, a zillion shops went BROKE, the tourist trade was

destroyed & not just by the travel bans, but the racist remarks, change of rules daily. And now they supposedly have legalized pot, yes, no, maybe??? Yawn, it will happen when it happens.................................

I,am sure it is allready in the mountains in thailand. Many people grow it somewhere. If legal then many will be growing it in their back gardens

No. The minister is exactly right.

Flowering starts almost immediately if the day length is less than 12 hours. So you'll get foot high plants trying to make tiny kolas.

Wait until after the vernal equinox on March 21, when the day and night are both 12 hours.

In America that means seedlings grown indoors, with the photoperiod extended with lights, can be put out in late Spring and will grow to more than 15 feet and have dozens of thick kolas the size of a man's arm by harvest time. That's done in late Autumn, before sunrise in the morning after the first frost. Compost the leaves, cure the buds, and share with your neighbors.

The minister was just being brief and didn't want to burden people with details of growing techniques.

I have no personal knowledge of such things but that's what a friend of a friend overheard one night in a bar. Likely just nonsense.

I see the Reefer Madness crowd have exited their alcohol induced haze long enough to have a few harsh words about the dangers of whacky weed.
My advice to their concerns?  Trust me:  Just toss back a few JWB & Sodas and everything will be just fine.

Keep Calm and Have Another Drink!  ????

They just love getting in front of media whenever they can. The me first attitude also applied to their driving approach.
