National emblem? Kangaroos - shot and fed to dogs. 

 

National anthem? (that many want): Waltzing Matilda - about a homeless person stealing sheep. 

 

Most famous sport? Cricket- lasts 5 days and sometimes still no result. 

 

Most famous band? The Bee Gees -  born in UK

 

Most famous male singer? John Farnham - born in UK

 

Most famous female singer? Olivia Newton John - born in UK

 

Most famous male actor? Russell Crowe - born in NZ

 

Most famous female actor? Nicole Kidman - born in USA 

 

Most famous food? Pavlova - from NZ

Surely the most famous Aus Band is AC/DC but I guess one would argue the Angus Brothers being born in Scotland makes them not an Aus band.

I read that Australia is the only country that still kills the animals on its coat of arms: the kangaroo & the emu, both of which are primarily considered pests and are frequently culled.

 

The current national anthem is absurd. The original lyrics are a total embarrassment to the country today, so there have been several changes through the years removing whole verses and offensive parts. Even in its current shortened form hardly anyone knows the words other than the chorus "Advance Australia fair".

Being Australian i'm happy with the coat of arms,the flag and the song.
