During that time the local hospital refused to test and just kept telling patients, "Go home, just a cold." Popular Post Scott
The Wuhan Institute of Virology is one of the preeminent research facilities for coronaviruses. Historically, most coronavirus related diseases have originated in and around China. It makes sense that research would be conducted as close to the origin as possible. Most countries are not particularly interested in importing infected bats or even viruses capable of infection. Whether we like it or not, this is the reason that so much research is occurring there. The US is far from being the only country that funds research or cooperates with the Wuhan Institute. Both France and Canada have had long standing agreements with the Institute and research has been conducted on behalf of many countries. Staff are from or trained from numerous countries, including Australia. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of coronaviruses. At least 500 different viruses have been identified and most of them are of no danger to people. 7 viruses already infect people and they range from one causing the common cold to MERS which is 30% fatal. There are a host of other viruses being studied that have the potential to infect people. I recall of 11 coronavirus types found in bats in Laos that had the potential to be a danger to people. This particular one is most likely in the same category as those others which have certain proteins that MIGHT have the possibility to actually enter a human cell. It's worth watching and studying but is probably not yet ready for prime-time coverage in the media. 3

Trvlr55
this is a virus in bats only, it has not crossed to humans, and without someone mucking about doing experiments will not cross over. it's probably been in these bats for 1000's of years, just more hype... but if anyone can make it happen. the source of this article Wuhan could do it.
GroveHillWanderer
On 2/1/2022 at 11:31 AM, Bkk Brian said: The virus carries the high mortality rate of MERS-CoV (where one in three infected people die on average) and the high transmission rate of the current COVID-19 virus. In the same NDTV article that states this, it also says: Quote In its current form, NeoCov does not infect humans but further mutations may make it potentially harmful. So if it doesn't infect humans - and it currently doesn't, then how can they state anything (with certainty) about its transmission or mortality rates in humans? The short answer is, they can't. Those characteristics of a virus are not things that can be established from laboratory data. Edited February 3, 2022 by GroveHillWanderer
