Chief of the Phuket provincial police Pol Maj-Gen Sermphan Sirikhong announced the arrest of a serial thief who stole Euros from the car of a Greek man at a condominium car park.

Alexandros Alexiadis had reported 4,900 Euros - worth a little under 200,000 baht - was taken from his car on the night of 25th/26th January.

It happened in the Karon police jurisdiction.

Arrested was 24 year old Khanapong "First" Sakhoncharoen who was found with 500 Euros.

A motorcycle and the clothes he wore when stealing the money were taken into evidence.

He admitted everything saying that on the night in question he was driving around looking for something to steal when he saw lights on inside a car and discovered it was unlocked.

He found the stash of Euros and went to exchange most of them.

He was found to have a record of theft and drugs charges in the Wichit and Chalong areas in both 2020 and 2021 (twice).

oh my word, who leaves 5k EUR in a car with lights on, almost like advertising location and opportunity ("here thief... this car... take my money!")

And left car unlocked. Hard to have sympathy for some people.

And the door unlocked !! Sounds a bit suspicious.

I wonder why he kept 500 of the 5000 Euros?

Perhaps he was using some intelligence and using different exchange places and only changing a small amount at a time to avoid suspicion.

Maybe that's how he was caught; details of this are somewhat sparse.

But credit to the Thai police for actually catching this guy.
