Truckers rally to demand lower diesel prices or ouster of Thailand’s energy minister

Hundreds of truck drivers, associated with the Land Transport Federation of Thailand (LTFT), flexed their muscles in a show of “truck power” today (Tuesday), in an attempt to put pressure on the government to cap the pump price of diesel, currently at about 30 baht/litre, at 25 baht.

 

The truckers were joined by numerous taxi drivers, who are demanding that the government lower the price of NGV and extends the serviceable period of their vehicles, from 9 to 12 years.

 

The protesting truck drivers converged in the morning in Nakhon Pathom province, on the Bang Na-Trat highway and at the Bang Pa-in checkpoint, before heading to the energy ministry.

Isn't the price now locked at 30 baht, and that was the compromise or solution from a month or two ago? I don't mind if they reduce it further, but surely there are more deserving places the money could go.

Why don't they just pass the price rise onto their customers, like everyone else.

How would these idiots survive if they were truckies in Australia or in other western countries, they wouldn't with this attitude.

 

As a comparison and to show how little knowledge these morons have of how fuel prices are arrived at ( fuel companies exploiting motorists, not the govt ) the price of diesel in Australia TODAY is 40.14 THB per litre. The price of E10 is 42.5 THB per litre (E20 here is around the 34 - 35 THB per litre range ). So fuel prices here, whilst on the increase, are not rising as rapidly as in the west.

 

So with the govt capping the price of diesel at 30 THB per litre they have nothing to complain about when compared to current global fuel prices. Fuel prices are up everywhere.

 

Perhaps ALL motorists should also be protesting to drive the price of E20, 91 & 95 etc down, especially as there's more general motorists that truckies.

The problem is that prices of transporting goods are still based on old prices. You cannot compare to OZ because the pricing is different there. These guys now have a problem charging higher prices as they are stuck in contracts and its hard to compete.

 

So you bringing in prices in other countries makes absolutely no sense. Your not seeing the problem.

 

I am not saying they are right im saying your comparison is invalid. They should just try to increase prices but if they are locked in contracts then that is hard.

Shell prices are higher than the 30 baht limit. This is todays pricing but a few days ago i filled up with Fuelsave Diesel (old B10) and it was 32.5 per litre.

I was up at Enco at the Energy Complex yesterday for a meeting, had to sneak in the back entrance, as the truckers and taxi drivers had blockaded the main entrance. 

 

Most of the staff appeared to be at home, as the place was empty. Loads of protestors and media outside the front gate though...

why dont they start saving on fuel just turning OFF the cars/ motorbikes when at the traffic light (in Europe cars have the Start&go).

 

same when they just stop 5 minutes to buy food from stalls.. or do whatever they are doing in the house with the car ON oustide the propertly

 

I can agree that sometimes it's necessary for the AC working, but most of the time it's just they are lazy
