Why worry about the future?

It may all end in nuclear war tomorrow.

That was the point of @Farmerslife comment.

What if you plan that the world ends tomorrow and you spend all your money today and you don't have any money anymore for the day after that - just in case the world does not end.

Don't think too much!

The number of my pals 'just working one more year' to make sure they had enough then died without ever having more than their yearly holidays is astounding.

I have never planned more than one year at a time here - the length of my extension of stay.

Twelve iterations of "just one more year". But I cannot imagine doing it without a reliable income.

Sounds like he has at least a modest amount of U.S. social security income, and good experience at how to stretch it.  So it's not a blind leap into the unknown, but rather an informed decision to accelerate by a few months something that he has planned to do for many years.  And (not to be morbid but rather just practical) it sounds like his mother is in a final spiral so there may be an upcoming inheritance in the mix.

I hope he resumes writing.

NO!

He married a 29yo but he didn't love her.

And he had a 18yo girlfriend who he loved (and it seems he still loves her).

At least that is what he said in the interviews.

Excuse me? I am certainly not jaded with life, every day is a new adventure for me. Moving on is preferable to being bitter about something in the past that I can do nothing about.

Cynical, yes. I've learned money brings out the worst in people, so the only person who knows what I have is me.

The other risk is STD's, the ignorance of them in young people is astounding.

Was that a general comment, or a shot at me? If so, you missed by miles.

Read my post and what I quoted again, it wasn't about you personally.

Internet is misleading. Words get misdirected. Tbl seems like a good guy

You may be right, and I have over-reacted.

I understand TBL is not in a good place, perhaps that colored my view of his response.

You should have got out more when you were younger!

How on earth does responding to a post about guys that want the youngest around become about you?

This is what I quoted and what I responded to

"I admit to being baffled by guys that want the youngest around".

specifically the bit about "guys that want the youngest".

I fail to understand how you make that about yourself.

Perhaps you were having a bad day or something.

I will not be responding to anything further about this.

I wasn't.

You are not quoting the passage in your post which said:

"Could be 'cause they haven't lived long enough to become jaded with life, cynical and bitter."

I'll leave it at that as well.

I know I said I wouldn't respond, but how do you make that about you when it was referring to "young girls haven't lived long enough to become jaded with life, cynical and bitter"? The GIRLS, not YOU.

If you don't understand that by now I give up trying to explain.

NOW I understand, I thought you were referring to older men like me. Ambiguity is the curse of communication, thank you for the clarification.

Not entirely sure what you expect someone in their mid 60s+ to do?

I just sit around drinking/reading/listening to music/watching TV/posting on forums and doing nothing much while waiting to die, it's a fine occupation.

Maybe you think I should be finding a cure for cancer?

If i was in the top 1% of being intelligent i would certainly try to do something more positive?

You could certainly help to find a cure for cancer but maybe not?

Which part is not positive? He describes the perfect retirement lifestyle aside of already accepting his faith.

If you would be in the top 1% then maybe you would do that. But if you are in the 99% why do you think you would be able to know how the 1% think? ????

Ok I just subscribed to his channel.

I saw his channel and I thought subscribing. But then I though I will wait for the next interview and a summary.

If, after working one's butt off doing a job one doesn't like for 40 years, one is actually able to retire, one should be able to do whatever one wants to, even if that involves not doing anything important.

I do not accept that that applies to those that live off the proceeds of crime or those that exploit taxpayers all their ( non working ) life.

But why would a genius work for 40 years in a job which he doesn't like?

Or to say is differently: A genius wouldn't do that.
