Teacher assaults primary student because he dared to ask a question

A distraught 28 year old mother in Pattaya has gone to the Nong Prue police after her son, aged 10, was assaulted by a teacher at a primary school.

 

The boy was whacked in the back.

 

Why?

 

Because he didn't understand and he dared to ask questions.

Suwanna, 28, has vowed to have the matter prosecuted. 

 

Daily News reported that she had taken her son to the Muang Pattaya hospital.

Without the ability to ask questions at school, question the teachers, the assignments, and the veracity of the lessons taught, there is no hope for the Thai educational system. Teachers like this need to be severely punished. If not by the authorities, than by the parents, or the students.

Never forget when I was 12 asked the teacher what was the population of the world, and the whole class including him broke into uproarious laughter, like I'd asked the most ridiculous thing in the world. Bottom line was he didn't know so had to make me look like an idiot. At least I didn't get whacked for it.

Unfortunately, daring to ask questions to/of people in authority is one of the fundamental things that Thai schools aim to stamp out of Thai youth, sometimes quite literally as this story proves.

 

Think where that could lead. First teachers being questioned, then civil servants, then police, then politicians, where could it end??? 

 

It's not like the PM sets a good example of how to behave maturely when he is questioned.

Speaks volumes about the ( lack of ) quality of the education system here.
Teacher should be banned for life as a warning to others that they have a duty to uphold. That is to teach and not molest.
I hope the boy gets over it and gets straight A's in the future.

Agreed. Perversely, the poor kid in the article will most likely have to prostrate himself in front of the very teacher that assaulted him on "wai kru" day.

How can you learn if you don't understand??? and if you ask questions you are being hit?? Difficult things if teachers have to teach, and than there is anothe rtopic about the salary and debt they have because they are highly ranked in the community.. How can you ever respect some one if they act like this??

This teacher is a perfect example why Thai education system is so messed up, and should, in my opinion, be sacked. The kid, on the other hand, deserves a better place to learn.

I’ve seen about 100 primary kids beaten.  I told the police, since I had friends who were cops.  He went there, school said no video, that was it……I asked the other foreign teachers why they didn’t help me.  Scared.   Disgusting.   I’ll say the school was on the moon, no libel.   Lol.  I left a few months later.  I tried, back then I didn’t really have a great phone with a camera. Never touch kids, unless you really are defending your life or someone else.

I was a teacher & one of my main goals was getting students to ask questions. Teachers here hate questions because they have no idea what the answer may be and are insecure in their ignorance.

My job was not to be "the answer man"... I might say "That is a darn good question. I don't know the answer. Hmmm. How can we figure out the answer?" Asking questions and finding answers on your own is what education is about, in large part.

Not just teachers is it, a few Dr's I have seen don't like questions either. Always try to see one that has spent some time abroad for education or work.

Here's the other problem; in Thailand spreading unfavorable true information can get you sued for defamation.

And this  https://pattayaone.news/sexual-abuse-of-girl-for-eight-years-teacher-arrested/  thats happen  every day somewhere in Thailand with 1000nds of kids every year, and sometimes, even the schoo; defends them because they are good teachers, and most  times government just transfer them to other schools where they can continue

Yes, I'm afraid that happens all too often. Many get over it but I do see quite a few in Pattaya where that look never wore off.

This is the reason Thailand depends so much on tourism. Serving foreigners that are much better educated is not as hard as developing science and maths and becoming technologically savvy.

It's not just the hitting of the students that is bad but how some of these schools operate. I had a friend that was teaching at a local private school in my area. So one day I asked him how many kids are you failing this year? He looked at me and said none. Than he said I can't fail any students as the school needs the money and they need to come back next year. As the VP of the USA said you need to go to the root of the problem.
