non immigrant o visa or tourist visa?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Here's my situation, my wife and kid are in Thailand and I've booked a flight to go there on 2nd April, I'm currently in the UK.

I'm planning to stay a bit longer than 3 months and was wondering if there's enough time for me to get a non immigrant o visa or shall I just enter with a tourist visa and try to extend?

Or can I enter with a tourist visa and then apply for non o visa?

Many thanks

Should be plenty of time still to apply for an e-visa non-o to visit wife/child of Thai nationality.

You could get a total stay of about 120 days by entering visa exempt that allows a 30 day stay that can be extended for 30 days and then 60 day extension to visit your or child.

Applying for tourist visa or a non-o visa on the e visa site can take as much as 2 weeks to get the stickerless visa sent to you by email.

A visa exempt entry is not a tourist visa. Some people call it a visa waiver and etc. You just arrive and get stamped into the country if you are from certain countries.

Be aware that without visa, yes you are stamped into Thailand for period of 30 days. (visa exempt entry). However at departure for your trip to Thailand the airline may/will ask to see onward flight (does not need to be return) dated within 30 days of departure.

I recently got a 30 day extension to a 60 day tourist visa through an agent for 4,000 baht, and was told I could have a 60 day extension for 6,000.

Why would you need an agent for a 30 day extension to a TV ???

Very simple & straightforward process - Cost 1900 baht.

Valid point, yes it is simple.

In some cases it can burn best part of a day.

That would be the case for myself dealing with CW.

2100 baht to an agent I can understand some would choose that option.

To avoid having to queue all day at Jomtien immigration and catching covid.
