Probe underway over K-pop idol Lisa as new liquor brand ambassador

Thailand’s Disease Control Department’s Office of the Office of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee will seek an explanation from those responsible for posting an advertisement of a brand of liquor on Facebook using Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban, a Thai-born singer and member of South Korea’s famous “Blackpink” girl band, as its brand ambassador.

 

Disease Control Department Deputy Director-General Dr. Kajornsak Kaewcharat said on Wednesday that the department had received several complaints over the advertisement in question.

He said that the Office of the Alcoholic Control Committee has assigned officials to investigate the matter, which may contravene Thailand’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Act and the Prime Minister’s Office regulations prohibiting the online sale and advertisement of alcoholic beverages.

 

Violation of the regulations is subject to a fine and/or imprisonment on conviction.

She is not the focus of the investigation; she didn't break any law; she signed a contract abroad and the publicity (commercial) is not used in Thailand (where publicity for alcohol is illegal).
The investigation looks for Thai fans (and fangroups) in Thailand reposting the foreign publicity on social media (FB, IG).

Local plebs posting on Facebook are much easier for the local 'authorities' to bully and extort than an internationally known star with money.

By the way, very often, when I browse the CNN website, with a Thai internet address, I get advertisements of Chang Beer on my screen.
To me that seems a very clear violation of the law.

By law in Thailand you can not show your product in advertisements,  only the company logo.  That includes showing cases of product too.

 

She was holding a bottle.  The question is if this was done outside of Thailand.

Very clever by the company, who no doubt knew exactly what they were doing and that it would generate masses of free publicity. The government jumped right in, as the company knew it would, with the 'free press' lawful requirement to blur the product fooling no-one.
