SURIN, March 28 (TNA) – Authorities in the northeastern province of Surin plan to make it the first province that declares COVID-19 endemic disease, on April 1.

The Public Relations Office of Surin announced the plan while encouraging locals to receive their third and booster COVID-19 vaccine shots to strengthen their immunity.

According to the office, all villages are actively campaigning for COVID-19 prevention. The fatality rate among local COVID-19 cases is capped at 0.5%. No more than 3% of patients occupy hospital beds. At least 70% of local people were fully vaccinated against the disease and all of them regularly wear face masks and comply strictly with disease control measures.

The first part, no mention of the province's rate for booster shot compliance, which is probably somewhere in the 30% range, which is no good as regards combating Omicron. I'm presuming they left out

The second part, regularly wear face masks and comply strictly with disease control measures????  In what planet are these guys living on? Sounds like April Fool's Day has come a bit early this year to Surin.

How exactly can Surin open up if the government isn’t opening up the whole country? Province by province is unworkable.

555 More Typically Thailand spouting of nonsense. Cart always way before horse and then comes next breath....WHOA NELLY! Walk it back. Shut up. Think before spouting. Try this on regular basis and maybe gain a modicum of credibility. :coffee1:

IS THIS A GAME, lets see who can be the most stupid. A province cannot make itself free of the virus just like that and call it an endemic without the rest of the countryor else the other 70 odd propvinces will ionfect this opne.

GOD you have  to love them, commonsense and logic is so way down the list of abilities it ius almost pitiful to watch.

Making it endemic does not mean free of the virus, just that they recognise it is here to stay and will deal with infections as they do other common virus infections.

I like how things can only happen on the first day of a month in Thailand. ????????

I think it's good, but it should happen after a restricted Songkran with less water and less togetherness.

Oh pretty much.

In Canada we are nearly there - it will be another month or so but that will be it.  On April 1st you just need to be vaccinated to enter - no testing, nothing.  Finished.

How can one „cap“ the death rate? Is there a law which forbids to die as soon as the quota is reached?

Yes on the U.S. right now having a better per capita cases rate than those other countries. No on the per capita new deaths, with the UK showing the same rate and France showing a slightly lower rate.

Always lulzy to see people so fearful of COVID still.  Totally consumed them.

Why do you believe people let it consume them. Information on the spread and keeping ones family and self safe is far from being scared of something.....

Guess you missed the latest update by the government today:

...serious COVID hospitalizations (1,748) and intubations (691) both rose again to set new record highs for the year.

Does that mean a lot of medical services that were available for free to people will now be excluded?

They'll need more clarification.

Hello ,

personally they should check there infection rates and cases , Secondly the full vaccination rate/ 2 shots, Should be greater then 70% ,  More like 80% or greater.

Finally Covid should become monitored and vaccinated for just like annual influenza at some point.
