Popular Post webfact
The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders issued a warrant for the arrest of exiled former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra today (Tuesday), after she failed to appear for a hearing in a corruption case concerning a roadshow project. Yingluck, former deputy prime minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan and former secretary-general of the prime minister’s office Suranand Vejjajiva are accused of helping Matichon Plc, Siam Sport Syndicate Plc and its managing director Ravi Lohthong to win a contract to hold a roadshow without a proper bidding process. Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe The roadshow included exhibitions, seminars and other activities to promote the “Thailand 2020” project. The charges allege that the corruption occurred between August 2013 and March 2014. Yingluck did not attend the hearing, but she was represented by her lawyer, Noppadon Laothong. Surely Yingluck has access to sufficient funds (or private jet) to travel. Could there be another reason? At least the other 5 co-defendants showed up. Will be interesting to see how the case progresses. 1

Popular Post Andycoops
What a complete waste of time when killers are at large, it's just a political witch hunt. I'm sure the current incumbents will be sh****g themselves as revenge will be sweet when they eventually go.

Skeptic7
Should forget about her. It's her "pee chai" they should be hunting down. Of course Thailand is not actually doing anything...just more bloviating. Both corrupt and criminal fugitive siblings were allowed to escape from the inside. Typically Thailand.

mtls2005
The thai "judicial" system is corrupt at it's very foundation. It was built that way for a reason. The timing of these indictments is also curious, or maybe not. But even the ardent dinosaurs recognize the silliness and pettiness of these cases. And they only raise the Shinawatra name and profile. I guess these serve two purposes: Discourage other people from becoming involved in populist politics. Build up a backlog of cases which cannot be expunged by a future non-Army government.

Yes, quite a few other PMs have fled. This is a feature not a bug. Most were allowed to return. Only one died in exile, and only allowed to return in an urn. I think that's the current plan for the previous two PM overthrown in coups.
