Daily News Thai Caption: So what if I don't get out of the way

Netizens were commenting in numbers after the head of a rescue foundation detail in Phuket in southern Thailand posted a video.

Anit Jenrop - chief of the Kusontham Phuket rescue - posted a 40 second video showing a BMW 320i deliberately blocking him in an ambulance carrying an accident victim.

And it got worse; despite the siren wailing and finally issuing a desperate plea over the loudspeaker to get out of the way that resulted in the BMW driver slamming on the brakes when the road ahead was clear.

Anit told Daily News he had picked up a woman who had road rash after an accident and was on the way to Vachira Hospital.

He implored the public to please allow ambulances to pass whether they are sounding their siren or not.

Many people have pointed out that the fine for blocking an ambulance - 500 baht - needs to be changed or such incidents will continue.

I wonder if those "many people" also see most rules as being advisory only...

A shake up of who gets to use the road must surely come to end the primitive skills displayed here ????

Never heard of "road rash" ...is that a disease common to Thailand....

Fall off your motorcycle at speed and see what happens...

most Thais I know either have an example of road-rash or exhaust burn.

Road rash is usually when falling off a motorcycle and the long scrape or burn one revives skidding along the road.  Very painful.

Just spend some time at any Thai Hospital A & E Dept, and you will soon see how common it is.
