This is Thailand they do things differently here, one way of ratcheting up the xenophobia is for a farang to walk around maskless with a know-all, supercilious smirk on his face. 2
Popular Post simon43
Nowadays, I wear a mask inside shops and shopping malls. I wear it on my chin when jogging every morning (the sweat soddens the mask and makes breathing difficult). I will wear the mask outside of my own choice if the air quality is low, or if close to other people. If I were a foreign tourist considering a holiday in Thailand, and if I were informed prior to booking my holiday that I am required to wear a mask in the scenarios mentioned in the OP, then Thailand would be off my list for a holiday...
Jingthing
They should drop outdoor requirements ASAP. But I think keeping indoor requirements for now is good policy. How long I don't know but my prediction is that they will keep them too long.

The famous Ad campaigns from the TAT should all feature tourists fully masked as they ride elephants, walk along deserted beaches, ride in TukTuks, sit by the pool, visit temples etc. just so it is 100% clear that your holiday will be spent wearing a sweaty face nappy. There could also be a section where a tourist is arrested for Vaping, just for the sake of clarity. There are so many things here that tourists can do that they can't do in their home countries. Where else can they legally see a naked girl on a stage with a frog, unopened bottle of Fanta, and some blowing darts? They will suffer the slight discomfort of wearing a mask. Then I woke up! The problem is TAT do their own thing and therefore continually mislead the public in their tourist adverts worldwide. As they did with no mention of the consequences of testing positive upon arrival and being forced into quarantine at your own expense, at the time it was required.

Doesn't matter if you live with someone if you are both in a car together you are supposed to wear a mask. Yes it does not make sense but you are actually "wrong" and your family are abiding by the current gudelines/regulations. Somehow it does not make sense that I could pull up in traffic, on my bike, wearing a mask, and the single person in their car next to me, with the window down does not have to mask up. Have I got that right?

He claimed he got stopped on his MB for no mask and was told he needed to pay 20,000 b. He claimed he settled it for less. So, I guess you never know best to at least keep one with you when out. I'd show my broken ankle and skinless foot to any copy that pushes me to wear a mask on a bike ever again. It's a serious, and REAL, hazard to wear one vs the uselessness of wearing one in the open air, by yourself, to combat getting a mild cold/flu.
Spilornis
Strange that they are pushing masks outside when the region (Singapore and Malaysia) has relaxed that mandate. I would expect Indonesia to be the next to move now the Ramadan period is over Here in Malaysia there have been a lot of pictures of unmasked senior politicians at crowded social events. I assume they are outdoors or banquets. A month ago you would never have seen this in the media. At the end of Ramadan the PM celebrated with 100k persons at his open house meal serving. All/most unmasked Edited May 13, 2022 by Spilornis

So wearing a mask caused you to break your ankle and have the skin removed from your foot? How is that possible, unless you were wearing the mask as a blindfold while riding your bike. BangkokReady
Quote Analysis: Thai Public Health Ministry doubling down on public mask mandates, say looking for ways to enforce them better for tourists It's a delicate balance. On the one hand, they want to make it clear that Thailand is open to tourists and want people to visit and spend money as they did before the pandemic. On the other hand, they want to make it clear to Thais that foreigners are dangerous, all have covid and are the reason covid came to Thailand. Tricky.
