Indian tourist’s gold necklace worth 85,000 baht allegedly stolen by two women in South Pattaya, seventh such incident in a row

South Pattaya — A 28-year-old Indian tourist stated that he had his gold necklace worth 85,000 baht allegedly stolen by two women in South Pattaya, marking the seventh similar incident in the Pattaya area over a few weeks.

 

Early this morning, May 27th, at 3.30 a.m., Pol. Maj. Saijai Khamchula from the Pattaya Police Station responded to a theft report of a golden necklace at the entrance of Soi Pattaya 11 on Beach Road, Nong Prue sub-district, Bang Lamung, Chonburi.

A 28-year-old Indian tourist, Mr. Gourab Paul, who reported the case, told Pattaya Police that while he was heading back to his hotel with his friends after a night out in South Pattaya, two women surrounded him and offered him companionship. One of the individuals then walked behind him, furtively stripped him of his gold necklace that he stated was worth 85,000 baht, and escaped.

google the name, you'll find dozens of references to 'Gourab Paul'. As for for the heist, one flirts, the other sneaks round the back and undoes the clasp. It's one of the oldest tricks in the book. 

 

And why Indians @Letseng? Because they like to flaunt gold. It's a powerful status symbol in the Indian culture

Yes and they also likely fear leaving it behind in their hotel... room safes don't have a good reputation. There has been a lot of mention of likely insurance scams though, and I would hope the police try to get video recordings of him on his way out of his hotel, bedecked in his finery. Just to be sure....

So we are up to 85 k, any one going for 90 k ? These cheating Indians should be played at there own game. They claim they had a 85 k necklace stolen so Thai authorities should retrospectively charge them import duty as the allowance is 20 k. That will shut those Indian scammers up.  Quality tourists indeed, low quality more like.

Have you ever had a discussion with a heavily accented Indian in English? Factor in that they will both be using a second language. The policeman probably asked him to pull down his mask in order to hear what he was saying.

 

I sometimes have difficulty understanding what someone is saying when they're wearing a mask. (especially when they are a pretty bank teller)

They sometimes do, when pressure has built up, I think we are getting there. I recall about a year or two ago, we had quite a lot of these necklace snatches, and up pops a case of  some Indians being charged for submitting false theft reports and insurance claims.
