Video: Pack of stray dogs chase tourists on popular southern Thai beach

Thai media 77kaoded published a video of a pack of about ten stray dogs chasing tourists on the popular beach of Ao Nang in Krabi, southern Thailand. 

 

The tourist who filmed it called on the authorities to do something about the dogs. 

 

Te tourist gave the clip to the media after the incident on Saturday evening. 

 

The media reported that the dogs have been there for ages and try to get food from tourists evry morning and evening. 

 

The media noted there have been many biting attacks on that beach of both Thai and foreign children.

 

Each time the local authorities act but the dogs - who live on adjacent wasteland - often get away.

 

Efforts to spay and sterilize the dogs have been hindered by dog lovers who criticize the authorities for their actions.

Dogs again, even if neutered by the do gooder foundation they are still pests, as this demonstrates.

They used to jab the dogs with strychnine to kill them, a few years ago. In front of horrified tourists.

The dogs were wagging their tails while barking, which usually means that they are excited, but not hostile.  However, anytime you have an excited pack of dogs like that you have the potential for trouble.  A pack of dogs usually follow the lead of their most aggressive member, so all it would take would be one angry dog to set them off. 

 

A pack of dogs is like a mob of humans, but worse, as they cannot speak or try to reason with each other.

Outsmarted by a pack of stray dogs?  There are a number of ways to catch stray dogs, humane cage traps or tranquillizer dart guns to name but two.

it becomes tiresome after a while .... stray dogs on beaches, in soi's ,  at 7/11 shop fronts etc ... etc ...

biting kids, in some cases attacking and maiming children who require stitches ....

 

but yet this silly country does not see that as wrong ...  what kind of mentality are these people to allow this to keep going on year after year ......

Ah yes those were the good ol days when the Rabies Control Unit would do the rounds at Patong with their strychnine stick and a Pickup load of dead dogs, you could actually have a meal outdoors without dogs fighting under the table for a few weeks until they regrouped. ????

Nah ... humans are definitely worse.  

 

Agree, though not that tourist should have to worry, but a wagging tail on barking dog, usually not a threat, and running away, is probably the worse think one can do.

If you wanted to catch them,simply put down bowls of food laced with tranquiliser, not that hard.

Pick them up, drop elsewhere or into a pound or whatever.

Before people want to criticize me for sticking up for the dogs, I admit that Thailand has a stray dog problem that needs sorting.

I do not believe that the do-gooder gang would object to them being neutered. That's nonsense. 

Not only would neutering them help keep numbers down, it would suppress aggression in the males.

Now, as for what happened, well as others have pointed out the dogs aren't that aggressive. And running away is the last thing you should do. The instinct of these creatures is to chase, thinking that they have the upper hand (paw).

I encounter stray dogs every day and if I meet a new gang who (act like they) want a piece of me, I stand my ground, raise my arms and stare at the alpha male... that's usually near the front centre and not barking. The others will always follow his lead and if he backs off, they will as well. Sometimes a beta male might want to be a bit brave but they're easily dealt with, without violence. Stray dogs are just like young Thai men... they only operate with any bravery when in a pack.

Dogs here know that humans feed them, and that humans can use weapons. They do not run around attacking humans. They cause a nuisance and act brave in packs, but that's it. When you know how to handle them, it's easy.

Ive said it 100s of times,  1000000 dogs dead is better than losing 1 human life,   poison every soi dog,  get them off our streets,  they are like rats,  <deleted>in vermin.

"About 10" ? I see 7 playing on the main beach in front of the marlin statue. This is the main street main beach, if there really was an issue, there would not be people on the beach. Yes the dogs are there every morning and night asking for food,  they are hungry,  because they have been abandoned,  a lot of times by tourists who come here and have them as pets then leave.

Exterminate that is , The Government Turns Deaf ears to that .

What kind of mentality allows mass shootings of their kids eh? And, unlike the Thais, they are supposed to be educated.

News Flash .... TIT ... Buddhist don't kill living things for no reason.  Many westerners would agree, killing something isn't always the humane way of things.

 

Could the situation be handled better, probably.

 

Some uncommon common sense:

... Educate yourself on dog behavior; aggressive vs excited

... if dogs around, not a good time to open the picnic basket, or show food

... if too excited for your comfort, share food, and back out of area

... NEVER run from or turn back on any dog

... if you think you can't get to a safe area away from dog / surf, go in the surf

... choose your location wisely, first come, first served or

have a stick handy. No need to use, they see, they know

... where I'm at, I welcome the soi dogs, as they keep the

very aggressive monkeys at bay ????

Yes of course, its on the top of my holiday purchase list, factor 50, sunglasses, an ice cold beer and a mut to follow me around for 4 weeks........I nominate the above for post of the year award ????

You could say the same about dangerous drivers,  drunk drivers, speeding drivers ect. I live in rural Isaan so I don't know what it's like in cities but I can't remember ever seeing a really aggressive dog here. Either in a city or not. Maybe it's more to do with the people than the dogs.

I guess none of the dog lovers have been bitten by them or thrown off/down the bike as it happen to me when, 2 years ago, spending 1 week there

Maybe you could consider moving to a less 'silly country' as you describe Thailand. Personally I do not regard Thailand to be a 'silly country' and, by the way,  in my case, and in my family's case, I have never had any problems with stray dogs here.
