Popular Post richard_smith237
This is one of the major is issues in Thailand... borne of an utter apathy by the police to enforce the laws... people do what they want when they want (i.e. park like this) then the sense of entitlement develops, they expect to park like this all the time.... No one does anything... Pedestrians are forced to walk on the road.... Its the same with motorcycles on the pavement, ‘someone’ even goes so far as to add a little concrete and build little ramps to ease access !! Do those in positions of decision making power know ??? My guess is they care so little they hardly notice until something negative occurs and social media makes a big deal out of it... they are then ‘forced’ to care, but briefly until the issue dies down. In this scenario, if you were looking for a spot to park and there was an available gap, what would you do???.... Personally, I’d park there, everyone else has... And thats the issue, the authorities ‘enable’ antisocial traffic behaviour (and parking) by doing nothing about it - in this case they’ve pretty much designed the pavement to be parked one with the ‘ramped kerb stones’.... That said - is the side walk / pavement on the other side of the road clear to walk down ??? This is one of those... TiT issues... not too much to take issue with, its just one of those things to shrug at... its Thailand after all.

Popular Post ripstanley
Thai motorcycles riding down one way streets the wrong way, These are small soi but they do not care. Today my girlfriend was driving and stopped at a pedestrian crossing to allow people to cross. She had to wave them to cross before they would move. The system here is bad because lack of enforcement. RTP pick up your game and not the bribes.

Popular Post newnative
It's the same thing on Pattaya Beach Road. The city foolishly decided to allow parking on the beach side. So, 3 lanes of traffic were reduced to 2 lanes. But--surprise, surprise--people's behaviors did not change. Drivers were used to stopping their vehicles in the left traffic lane and using it for parking as there were still 2 traffic lanes available. So, delivery drivers parked in the traffic lane. People running into 7-11 or other stores parked in the traffic lane. Taxis waiting for customers, tour buses . . . And, they still selfishly do--no change in behavior. They'll park in the traffic lane even when a parking space is available a short distance away. No, they must stop right in front of the store. They cannot walk any extra steps. What was 3 lanes of traffic is often now at busy times down to just 1 lane--which often itself gets bogged down with drivers trying to parallel park or waiting for a car to leave on the beach side parking.

There is no perfection in this world, but yes I like Thailand as long I'm able to keep the backdoor open for leaving if I want to. I'm semi retired by now, and what future brings, we have to wait and see. If Thailand turn out to be Spain or Florida for Indian and Chinese I might reconsider in future.

champers
The counter argument is: if you enforce the law and start clamping or towing away vehicles and fining their drivers, then they will not return to Pattaya and they will post on social media and deter others from coming too. About 2 years ago cars parked on Pattaya Beach Rd were being penalised and this position was quickly reversed after much criticism online. Businesses on or near the beaches need customers at weekends and don't want them being scared off by the police. A couple of park and ride schemes would make a positive difference to improve things for everybody, but I won't hold my breath waiting. Not enough car parks either, or they are in the wrong places.

Perhaps the beachside lane would make a good disabled and cycling lane.... Edited August 1, 2022 by jacko45k

Like I've said before: July and August used to be mini high season along the beach with the Europeans. But after two consecutive "projects" along the beach they gave up. Now with the beach side (pickups parking) as well as lowlife locals on motorbikes on that glorified road , I mean promenade , the Europeans along the beach are long gone. Yesterday Sunday took songkow from North to South and walked beach from South to North. About 99% Thais.
Guderian
That road has been labelled as "Billionaire Street" so it's probably just the guy who owns the new 280 Million Baht villa there parking his 18th, 19th and 20th vehicles outside his place, lol. He can only fit his Bentley, three Porsches and seven Mercs actually on his property.

Andre0720
And quite strange that police does nothing about this, as this is the perfect type of law enforcement that they specialize in. Which is any action that is easy, not dangerous to them, does not require chasing vehicles, etc. Locking parked cars in old Phuket town. Locking motorbikes on the sidewalk in front of Robinson store, ganging up to feel safe on a main street collecting bahts when farangs do not wear a helmet. All these actions have in common that it is easy to do, and that they do nothing to add security on the roads. So yes, TIT means that if one came here to observe the beauty of Buddhism at work, one will be in for one heck of a surprise...
Bangkok Barry
Try walking in Bangkok. Most roads have no room for pedestrians because businesses, either food vendors or shops, block them. Or the roads have no pavements/sidewalks there at all. And those that do have a place for people to walk are often blocked by poorly placed obstacles like electricity poles or phone booths. I have a friend who has travelled the world in a wheelchair, and he said that Bangkok was by far the worst place he had been to for wheelchair users.
