Soi Dog Foundation calls for an end to the Asian dog meat trade

Soi Dog Foundation has relaunched its latest campaign to end the dog and cat meat trade in Asia after the Covid-19 pandemic hampered progress in 2020 and 2021.

 

With many pandemic restrictions now lifted, Soi Dog is once again tackling this horrific trade throughout the region. The “Last Country on Earth” campaign has been created to pressure all Asian countries to end the dog and cat meat trade. This new step marks the foundation’s effective return to action after two years of obstacles posed by the pandemic.

 

Soi Dog has been fighting the Asian dog and cat meat trade for over a decade. With the help of a number of governments and private organizations, the inhumane trade in Thailand was effectively stamped out in 2014, the same year the foundation was influential in helping to bring about Thailand’s first animal welfare law.

Indeed, while the trade stinks, something has to be done to curtail the spread of the soi dog, surely? Nothing speaks more loudly of third world than viscous packs of feral mutts prowling the neighbourhood!

I don't want to see people starving when they could be eating, even if it is soi dogs. Cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, frogs, etc... many of them never chewed off a little girls face.

For me, I would like to increase the number of dog hunters in Thailand. Just to get rid of these dangerous Soi beasts. ???? And if necessary sell them as meat. (In some EU countries is was not forbidden to eat dog meat up to the late 60s)

Don't get me wrong. I'm a dog owner since many years. And my dog is educated, speaking many languages (????)

call in a group of fellas from viet nam. in less than a month there will be no soi dogs left to worry about. worry they bite. worry they spread disease etc. 

 

these idiots are making the problem worse. all soi dogs need to be put down. its really the only humane thing to do at this point.

 

i wonder if any of them are strict vegans. otherwise the irony is too rich.

I think we should accept the fact that other cultures eat things that we find unsavory and repulsive. Who are we to travel around the world telling them what to eat and what not to eat? 

I do, however, agree that there are waaaaaay too many mutts roaming the streets, parks, parking lots, etc. and this problem needs to be tackled quickly. Either cull them or give them the snip snip so they can't reproduce. Either way, you can start culling/snipping up in our village in Isaan.

Well I would go for the bigger ones, avoiding whippets and shih tzus and similar. Long dogs like dachshunds would make good sausages and greyhounds could be used in fast foods!

It's not my position to tell others what not to eat (provided it's processed humanely) - unless I was willing to provide a substitute.

 

But the Foundation's folk must keep a large and very visible supply of dogs roaming the sois, to justify their donations,  and thereby  continue their great visas, attractive stipends, vehicles, maybe even accommodation and other nice conditions and benefits - for all their "volunteers" ... who knows ... as they say: follow the money.

Yes, There was a Falang plonker,  going round Jomtien pattaya , in his van feeding the soi dogs every day.

Wish he had taken the dogs home with him.

but no just feeding them and the packs of dogs got just bigger and bigger.

How sad the soi dog problem is now days.

We have two women in the village who daily feed soi dogs and cats.  I am led to believe this is part of their buddhist beliefs.  Reincarnation in the hope they will come back as a better (richer?) person.  As long as people believe this the problem won't go away.

Most of the Soi Dog's charity work involves funding to sterilize strays and find homes for them. What's so wrong about that?

Why? if the transport and killing is done Humane than there's nothing wrong with that.

People Kill and eat Everything esle that walks or crawls, so why not cats and dogs.

I don't think that people go much for the Mangy Flea and tick ridden sick Soi dogs . 

They are more inclined to Kill and eat Healthy Dogs.

It's no different than Cattle ,Pigs,Sheep .Chickens,Rabbits, Fish,Prawns,and everything else what people can/want to eat.

They have specialized resturants in Belgium dedicated soley to Horse meat, not well adverrtised, but you will see a store with a horsehead over the door, or a picture of one in the window.
