Hi,

I would like to take a sleeping pill on the long flight to and from Thailand.

What are the regulations for bringing sleeping pills Zopiclone to Thailand? It is on the Table of Controlled Psychotropic Substances under Category II. What does that mean?

I guess it is forbidden to bring in?

If you only have a few tablets for personal use I doubt if Customs would worry, in fact it's unlikely you'd even be searched. Besides, sleeping pills are available without prescription in most pharmacies here.

I have had a few pills on me in and out never had a problem.  It may have happened but, I have never heard of anyone getting busted for having few.

Just don't forget the pill and leave it in your bag as I did years ago.  It was just one Valium but that was enough to put a big smile on the face of the Police captain when his crew found it while searching my bag at Ekkamai bus station.

Did you get busted for it?

B10,000 to walk away, which I did.

They must have been looking to make a quick buck. Valium or the generics is available easily from most pharmacies.

OP answers own query, but still wants someone, complete strangers, to maybe reassure him/her/it, doing something really stupid, isn't stupid.

Do try to keep up on current, new, old news.   It's only a couple vials of hash oil, what could go wrong.

Hope your flights don't cut through any Muzzy countries.

Do you feel lucky ... well do you punk ... comes to mind.

You just can't fix stupid.

ROFL, you can get it from a doctor here. No way i would pay anything. Have been taking sleeping pills for decades on both directions, did always have a direct flight though. Middle eastern countries can make a fuzz.

yeah avoid the middle east countries and you should be fine

what country are you flying from? never had a problem getting a prescription for diazepam when pretending to be scared of flying, usually the equivalent of 30mg from UK

you could of course just take a high dose before getting on the flight

For longer haul I try to book late night flights, where available.

On daylight flights I can't sleep at all.

Late night departure I fall asleep quickly and get a few hours.

It was a well known scam / extortion attempt by the BiB a number of years back.

The would check all the foreigners taking the bus to Pattaya.

They’e go through all their baggage looking for Viagra...   upon finding a little blue-pill or anything which looked like it, they’d struck gold...  “Oh... very bad......”

There used to be plenty of stories on here of guys getting caught.

It was as well know as the BiB stopping tourist walking in the Asoke area... checking for anything and everything in the hope they could find something and make money.

Fortunately, these stories have disappeared now...

Not really.  Just a few weeks ago, on the "Reddit" Bangkok page, a young fellow described being arbitrarily stopped by the BiB while walking on Sukhumvit between Sois 25 & 27 somewhere around midnight. Thoroughly searched, pockets turned out, shoulder bag as well.  They tried to extract money because he didn't have his passport on him though he showed a picture on his phone.  He outlasted them and ultimately walked away but I have no doubt there were others who gave in to their demands.

I pity anyone who has to travel on the same plane as you if that is your attitude to in flight safety and that of your fellow passengers.

You're being totally ridiculous. Do you want every passenger to have a blood test before boarding a flight to make sure they have not consumed any narcotics or alcohol? Then perhaps a cavity search to make sure they haven't hidden a sleeping aid where the sun don't shine.

Please explain what the above rant has to do about taking Controlled Psychotropic Substances on a flight?

Please read the OP!

so you need only one, on returned leg.

Read about melatonin, might have less side effects.

Yes, I need only 2 pills every trip. I have not noticed any side effects of this. I don´t think they are so strong. I feel OK the day after.

Just tell the pharmacy what you need. Can't recall any brands specifically.
