Over 93% do not want Thai PM to remain in office after 8 years – Survey

More than 93% of respondents say that they object to the prime minister remaining in office after eight years, according to an opinion survey, conducted via phone, by a group of lecturers from eight universities, in collaboration with eight digital TV stations and online media.

 

374,063 votes, including from 4,579 Thais living abroad, were received by the pollsters on August 20th and 21st, asking whether they agree with a prime minister remaining in office for more than eight years. There were 372,625 valid responses counted and the rest were invalid.

 

The survey shows 348,511 votes (93.17%) opposing the prime minister remaining in office after eight years, against 25,552 votes (6.83%) who said he should be able to stay on.

did he saw the results of the poll, if so he will be saying the numbers are inverted and the majority wants him to stay, thus constitution needs another amendment to make sure all goes his way

People have spoken, time to pack and leave and make sure all of your cronies follow you on the way out... the country needs to move forward, that's enough,  it has been 8 years of rowing against the tide and stagnation

Likely closer to 97%. Nobody I have asked in the past few years like him. Nobody. And some of that was before covid, and the Prayuth Decimation of the economy, and the great sabotage of the tourism industry.

I think you'll find that under those "criminals" more people shared the pie. They were, like it or not, liked by more people than the current lot are. They were elected by the people, the current lot were not. There is a feeling among many here that the current lot are in it "only for themselves, their families and friends". If you believe for one single second that this lot is not made up of criminals, then you really are a very, very naïve man.

Sorry, but 93% is a percentage that is simply not realistic. Not even Mugabe or the current dictators in Myanmar. This poll is not credible.

Does the majority want him out? Quite possibly. Is this reason for rejoice? Well, be careful what you ask for. The next one could be worse.

"Could be worse."  The way things are going  most Thais are willing to take that risk.

Totally agree, Apirat, the "crying" former Army Chief of Staff as PM? 

Very much a real possibility.
