Grab food delivery refusing order

It seems every time it rains I cannot get a food delivery from Grab. This has happened at least a dozen times. I live near Meechok Plaza and the restaurant is only about 2 kilo away. I know there are a bunch of Grab drivers sitting at Meechok. I usually order 3-500 Bt of food and I tip well. What happens is that the order is not confirmed and after 10-15 minutes I get a message saying "sorry cannot fine a driver". Really ticks me off. Never happens on Food Panda. Unfortunately some restaurants I like do not use Panda. Grrrr...

What answer do you expect? Obviously many riders don't want to drive in the rain so they take a break. When it's raining many people don't want to go outside, so they order.

Less riders + more orders = not enough riders for all orders.

Apologies : I will go down the Meechok now and tell the drivers that the rain isn't nuclear water and they dont have to hide from it and I will tell them to deliver your food immediately .

   They should give you a complimentary drink as well , what drink would you like ?

This informative is correct. It happens very often on Grab. I understand the problem with rain but they make you wait a long time before cancelling.

Does a driver actually pop up on the screen and then disappear? If not, it doesn't sound like the drivers are actually refusing your order. I was under the impression that they were automatically assigned orders based on their location, and they might suffer some sort of penalty if they refuse assigned orders too many times.

Usually no driver took it.

Occasionaly a driver takes it and then cancels.

The whole point of a ‘food delivery company’ is to deliver food...

 

Your response is akin to someone posting a gripe about taxi’s and you telling them drive themselves....  it completely misses the point and only serves you make the poster of said response look like a ????end....

Now...   While I’m away and my Wife wants to order something from Grab and the same thing happens... Would you tell her to go herself and collect the food herself? who watches our son?... ah.. take him with her... ok, but the traffic is terrible because its raining, so no point taking the car.

Grab has a Priority Order option which costs 10 Baht iirc. If they don't deliver or it takes too long then you get a voucher. Forgot how much. 25 or 50 Baht or something like that. Try it. Either they deliver and paying 10 baht for rain delivery is more than fair or you get a voucher at least. Last time it rained using the option did the trick for me.

I live on an unnumbered road in an unnumbered house, in a small out of the way mooban. Yet still basically right in town.  (grabs GPS locates it perfectly)

 

Order food I see it spinning and I know they have drivers, they just don't want the run.  After a few attempts finally got a Zinger burger.  Ordered a couple more times, spinning wheel, and then the same kid would accept. (pays to tip)  

 

 

For taxi service never a connection from home, but if Im at lotuses I get a grab taxi acceptance within a minute. 

So yeah, sometimes the riders are fussy.

From what I see , someone doesn't want to go out in the rain and they expect someone else to go out in the rain for 40 Baht or whatever the delivery fee is .

   Someone's sat at home and hungry and instead of getting themselves an umbrella and going out to get food , they sit at home and complain about it on here .

   In your circumstances , I would be thinking ahead , I would get some food in the house so that you Wife could eat that if Grab wouldn't deliver .

   We are talking about a motorbike rider staying undercover until the rain stops

I don’t really want to do my job sometimes, either...  but...

I imagine sometimes airline pilots sometimes don’t feel like going away from their families for a few days, either... but... 

 

If grab had a known policy that their riders won’t deliver in the rain thats different - but they offer a service... People want to use delivery because they don’t want to go out for any reason... rain, laziness, tiredness or just simple convenience.... it doesn’t matter, a company is ’theoretically’ offering that service... 

.... But, if that ’service’ only operates on a ‘when it suits them’ basis, then I can understand the irritation of a potential customer (i.e. the OP). 

 

The other facet of this is the ‘game’ the drivers play. To work for grab they have to accept a certain amount of orders (or rides), then the start messing around, take too long to get to the restaurant, or call up and ask us to cancel etc...  they’ve accepted the ‘order’ knowing they don’t want to fulfil it.

Not every moobaan or condo has a restaurant next to it...  They could also nip to 7-11 get some bread and and make toast....  

 

The point is that there is a service which markets itself as a ‘delivery service’ which only delivers when it feels like it.

 

And yes, complain about it on here... because thats what we do on forums... make observations, sometimes good, sometimes negative and we discuss them.

Agreed... there’s always plenty of options in the house... but if we just ‘want something’ then we order it. Thats the convenience of modern living.

... Sometimes I just want that ‘burger’ from a specific shop thats 3km.. to far to walk, traffic is too bad to drive... the convenience of being able to order something is welcomed in every city and town world wide.

That would be inconvenient...   How would they get the cow in the elevator ?

 

People of course could make their own burger etc.... I certainly have done in the past, but sometimes I don’t have all the right ingredients, the right bun etc.. and there’s always that one place that makes excellent burgers better than I can. 

 

Food delivery is a way of life and has been for well over a decade... 

 

When a ‘delivery service’ cherry picks whether or not it wants to deliver, customers are right to have misgivings. 

 

That’s almost like a restaurant turning away customers because it just doesn’t feel like serving them tonight, then some posters on this forum suggesting... just go home and cook, or just go to a different restaurant... It kind of obtusely sidesteps the point.

Normally they had to compete with other riders to accept the order that show up on their screen by being the quickest to click 'accept' some has fashioned mechanical finger that does the screen clicking repeatedly so that they have the job, 

 

that's why you'll see some accept the order but then call you later that their bike broke down in order for you to sympathize and cancel on your end without affecting their score,

 

it's because they won't be able to see what or where the order is and they need to blindly accept all orders in order to compete with other riders

 

so when it rains, they probably quit their app and won't accept any order, some other app might let you put up the 'tip' to incentivize them to accept order

But we aren't not talking about airline pilots not wanting to work and fly their airplanes , we are talking about some student guy who doesn't particularly want to get wet and ride in dangerous, even more dangerous conditions than usual .

  The guy is deliver noodles 2 kilometres away , he isn't flying 300 people 10 0000 kilometres away .

   When you try and book a taxi or a delivery , you need to be aware that it depends on the availability of a person will to provide the service you request .

  If you want someone to be available 24 hours a day , then you would need to have a personal driver whose available at all times

Yeah,.. I know, my argument was out there the midst of ‘strawman fallacy’....  

... the point I was trying to make is that these guys either want to work or they don’t.

 

Being a delivery driver or taxi driver involves being prepared to do the job they’ve agreed to do. 

 

So, if a rider accepts the ‘delivery job’ to take your order, then cancels because he doesn’t want to do it - its irritating (and its happened a few times) - the same with GrabTaxi’s.

 

 

I’m sympathetic to the drivers, they get a decent tip etc... because they are doing something I don’t want to do myself. 

But, if everyone just got their own food or cooked for themselves, these guys wouldn’t have any work. 

 

It is their ‘cherry picking’ of the jobs which generates the irritation that the Op has pointed out. 

IF there were no GrabDelivery service at all, something else would fill that ‘void’ i.e. another service !!!

The restaurants and the apps then take way too long to decide to cancel and that then defeats all purpose of the apps.

 

I prefer grabbing my own grub to these apps.

Once the restaurant accepts the order the buyer can't cancel it anymore. Grab implemented that exactly for this reason. A few riders asked me to cancel so their own score doesn't suffer but it's not possible anymore.

 

PS: AseanNow is becoming more and more a bickering fest ????

I wouldn't go that far. If it's raining a lot you know there's a good chance there is an issue. I've also noticed (in Pattaya) some general areas are more likely to not be accepted to my location than others so if I really want some food quickly, I won't take a chance on those. There are also somewhat predictable patterns of busy days of the week, rush hours, which you can choose to avoid. The taking a lot of time to cancel is really bad because you need to wait until they do until you start to arrange an alternative.
