Popular Post webfact Posted October 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2022 Thailand’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai Thailand abstained from the UN resolution to condemn Russia’s annexation of eastern regions of Ukraine last week because it wants its voice on the crisis to be heard, according to Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai. Don also dismissed speculation that Thailand’s abstention was designed to please Russian President Vladimir Putin who has reportedly confirmed attendance at the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to be held in Bangkok next month. “It has nothing to do with whether or not President Putin will attend the summit,” Don told Thai PBS World. Thailand was among 35 countries that abstained from the resolution. Laos and Vietnam were two other ASEAN countries that did so. Popular Post Pedrogaz Posted October 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2022 Well done Don. Now is not the time to acquiesce to endless US propaganda, but to use your own brains to decide whether the US is a force for good in the world or a force for evil. With the endless wars started on a seemingly daily basis against anyone who has oil, it would appear to me, they are a force for evil and theft (of Syrian oil). 2 1
bamnutsak Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Today's excuse. Be nice if they could stick with one reason, but think there's a lot of blowback on this so they keep trying to justify the abstention while never acknowledging the initial vote FOR condemnation. Inconsistency, incompetence and appeasement - the bedrock of Thai "diplomacy". FM Don is way, way, way past his shelf-life. 1 1

roquefort Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Sounds like the Damian Hurst quote one poster on here uses as his byline: "I have nothing to say and I want to express that." 1
mrfill Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 And what did their voice say? Mumble, mumble, tourists, oil, mumble....... 1

IIRC, it's the Russians who bombed the living daylights of everything in Syria to support Assad's brutal regime. Permit me to doubt Putin's invasion of Ukraine is a force for good, although it is certainly about continuing the theft that commenced in 2014 with Crimea. 4
johncat1 Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 What a load of c**p !! Thais have no morals, it is all about money . We all know Thailand always sits on the fence and grovels to get Russian tourists to come here.
MrJ2U Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Thailand, the hub for outlandish excuses. Looks like Putin, the butcher, won't be coming after all. 1

robertson468 Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Dear FM, do you not think that by failing to go with the UN vote it actually enhances Thailand's standing in the World Community? If you feel it is right to support one aggresively rogue Country and it's corrupt acolytes, which are far less than the majority who do vote with the UN proposal, you clearly have a different view on how to enhance your world standing.
poskat Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 When thailand speaks the world hears a mouse squeak...

PETERTHEEATER Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Thailland's voice could be heard simply by singing the karaoke version of 'The Volga Boatman'
lujanit Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Thais gutless position on world view again. Just following Xi. Remember the letter that wasn't delivered to the US in WW2?

Remember the letter that wasn't delivered to the US in WW2? The letter the Thai ambassador refused to deliver to Washington was a declaration of war. A notable example of a diplomat taking matters into his own hands. Similar I guess to the current situation with Myanmar and "their" UN ambassador. "Although the Thai ambassador in London delivered Phibun's declaration of war to the British government, the Thai ambassador in Washington DC, Seni Pramoj, refused to do so. Accordingly, the United States did not declare war on Thailand. With American assistance, Seni, a conservative aristocrat with well established anti-Japanese credentials, organised the Free Thai Movement in the United States, recruiting Thai students to work with the United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS).[11] Seni was able to achieve this because the State Department decided to act as if Seni continued to represent Thailand, enabling him to draw on Thai assets frozen by the United States." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thailand_in_World_War_II 1
