Prayut Moves To Block Booze Bill

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha held a meeting with leaders of all coalition parties on the Progressive Liquor Bill proposed by Move Forward Party with the conclusion being that the government should block its approval by the Lower House, Matichon newspaper said Tuesday (Oct. 25).

 

In June this year the Lower House had approved this bill, which proposes amendments to the Excise Tax Act, in its first reading. It will now be considered in the second and third readings on Nov. 2.

 

The bill was proposed by Move Forward MP Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, a craft beer brewer who was once arrested for producing this alcoholic drink. It seeks to break the monopoly of corporate brewers and allow small- and medium-scale brewers and entrepreneurs to enter the market.

Yeah right! Can’t believe after all these years Thailand has not got its act together with producing different quality beers. It’s got the talent and knowhow of course but is continually trumped by the big brewers and corruption.

Their issue is nothing to with concerns about uncontrolled product, it's to protect the interests of their supporters at Boon Rawd and ThaiBev.

Easy to look in EU or US to see the big beer companies still make plenty of profit while having some good competition at the lower end of beer making.

Well Leo did bring out some excellent beers this year with their columbus, yellow sub and galaxy brands. Seems they were too expensive and most Thais prefer tasteless rubbish like ordinary Leo

This lethal Lao Khao they make is sold at most Ma and Pa shops, it is deadly and yet it continues unabated. from 10b a small MI I5 bottle, so many die from continued use. But the local police do nothing except maybe take a backhander.

There is NO Beer made in Thailand, just fizzy larger, the worries on controlling smaller breweries is simply down to corrupt officials turning a blind eye on production procedures' and quality control. There would be no problems if officials did the job they are paid for not what anybody else pays them for.

It's maybe toxic by design. An unemployment / pension solution.
