Seven people have appeared in court including tourists following the raid on a premises in the Yannawa police jurisdiction in the Sathorn area of Bangkok.

They are the first group of defendants who have admitted their guilt.

Far more who have denied drug taking will see their cases in court today.

Prosecutors took four Chinese men, one Thai man and two Thai women to the Bangkok South Municipal court.

The Chinese men and Thai women admitted to taking the Class 1 drug methamphetamine and ketamine (Class 2).

They were given 1-2 month prison sentences and fines of 8-16,000 baht.

The fines were reduced to 4-8,000 baht due to their admissions and help in the case while the prison sentences were suspended for two years.

The Thai man was convicted after admitting to taking a prohibited liquid drug and acquiring funds illegally.

He was fined 4,200 baht reduced in half due to admission.

There are still 56 - mostly Chinese tourists - who will appear in court today. These are the ones who are fighting charges.

ASEAN NOW will bring you the result of the case as soon as we hear of it.

2100 THB fine? £50? Why bother? Who was given 1 month, and who 2? Ditto the 8-16k fines? Are they deterrents or inducements? Pay 2000 THB and you can do what you like for an evening! Ah well, who cares?

Maybe not, but they will be on a list !! they will be remembered in future cases.

A fair question and it remains to be seen what happens to the ones that are fighting the charges, but I have a hunch that none of the Chinese tourists will be blacklisted. It would look really bad?

Chinese are Farlangs

I think giving 10 days 'community payback' sweeping streets each would be better. Fines are nothing

So what about the rest of them? From an earlier report -

Quote

On Wednesday, after the raid, Police Major General Theeradet revealed that 104 of those detained at the venue had tested positive for illicit drugs including 50 men and 54 women.

Wrong. The word Farang applies to Westerners, not to other ethnicities.

I am aware of an English guy in "The Hilton" doing 8 years for the same drug.

Thailand people will be on death row for these offences.

I don't know how these fines and sentences are fair and equal. Someone, somewhere in high places knows.

you are wrong, the word Farang means Foreigner, so anybody not born in Thailand is a Farang, ie;-Foreigner.

And Thais doing drugs all the time. Encouraging cannabis use and now this.. Nobody beats thailand for Hypocrisy

Not true. Farang is a term for white western European types. Not the chinese

I thought China was closed to tourism.

Exactly! Thai law is applied in highly unequal amounts depending on who you are, where you come from and how much you pay. It's disgraceful.

Who cares about the semantics. It's obvious the Chinese enjoy favourable treatment with regard to breaking the law. Money talks.
