His passport could have also expired, either way, I do feel sorry for the guy, 74 and heading back to Finland, to what ? Fact of the matter is too many expats end up here with little or no savings, relying only on the pension, which makes me think, what if one day governments all around the world decided to stop paying pensions overseas, what would then happen to all those expats on pensions, they would have to return home, or find other means to survive, suffice to say, I don't trust or depend on governments. Some here might say, they'd have to grandfather it in, to which I would reply, says who ? 2

Sure he is not 100%, but that process doesn’t happen from one day to another. Thailand is the worst places for people having mental issues, as society doesn’t care at all about that. So it has nothing to with Schadenfreude, but it was stupidity back in the days, when he started overstaying. 1

Most other countries he'd be tasered, shot, or wrestled to the ground with a knee in his back. What did you expect them to do, give him a six-pack of Leo and tell him to carry on his merry way? Maybe a cup of Bovril? And really, if they can't disarm and old man with a stick, well..... 2 1

Maybe something is lost in translation. The Thai word for 'threat to society' suggest that one could be if they upset the peaceful dynamics of Thai society. Thais prioritize a peaceful society more than foreigners do. Foreigners prioritize their freedom to do as they wish. 3 1

RichardColeman Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 I imagine 1. He will not enjoy the coming winter in Finland and will probably be homeless on return judging by his current lodgings and 'wealth', and 2. He'll probably be dead by the end of a 10 year country wide ban !

Popular Post Neeranam Posted November 26, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 26, 2022 Any foreigner who has overstayed, or uses a visa agent, should be deported immediately. Thailand has to stop allowing threats to society, sex addicts, and alcoholics from staying so easily. 2 4

The fact to never be able to travel again outside of Thailand, be in constant fear of getting in a random police control or getting sick and having to go to a hospital, where everything would be revealed. this seriously can’t be worth it..even if that person lives under a rock. 1
