Whether I support Dems or GOP is irrelevant as I can't vote for either. However, it seems that the Dems do more things I disagree with on principle than the GOP do.

Eg, I'm sure the GOP wouldn't have cancelled the Keystone pipeline when half done, and are not, far as I know, all in on the climate thing.

I don't like that they support Wall St, but the Dems love Wall St too.

Like I said, I don't see much difference between them.

BTW if a few people armed with sticks threaten the fundamental tenants of democracy, that democracy is too fragile to last anyway.

I actually watched the invasion live on tv, and I saw hundreds wandering around congress building like tourists, and if they were "looking to overthrow the government" I'm a Martian. IMO they were a mob angry with the government in Washington, but that was a far as it went for most. If they'd been a BLM mob they would probably have burned the place down.

If it had been a BLM 100% they would not have been treated with kid gloves every possible section of military would have been called immediately.

A peaceful protest was pushed back to allow rump a photographic opportunity with a Bible so blm would not have been treated same

That's what they said last time.

I lived in NYC in the 1980's and was in commercial real estate. I have always known who and what he was. Everyone who had dealings with him had the same horror stories. However, his presidency showed many millions who did know know who and what he was, exactly what the horrible truth was.

That was then, and this is now. Everything has changed. Including the attitude of most of his former supporters.

This egomaniacal jackwagon is hilarious. Claims to be best at everything "by far", knows more than everyone...when in fact the opposite is true.

His mortgage company was Repo'd (Trump Mortgage)

Shredded his magazine (Trump Mag)

Failed at presidency (Trump 1-term Loser)

Burnt the steak (Trump Steaks)

This toxic narcissist know-nothing whack-job even ran the still dry at booze! (Trump Vodka) :cheesy:

old wisecrack: the only way to make money from gambling is to own the casino

He couldn't even get that right.

And don't forget the fake university that the court made him pay $25 million to get clear of.

While his comments were somewhat OTT, he did do a lot for Israel, like moving the embassy to Jerusalem, despite it doing nothing to bring peace to that unfortunate region.

As far as Israel is concerned, I would think that the 'Abraham Accords' were his biggest achievement & certainly has helped to bring peace & 'normality' to the troubled region.

LOL, that's exactly how I felt about Hillary Clinton.

I'm not at all surprised they voted for him when he was the only credible alternative to 4 years of her.

I said at the time that given a choice between her and a rock I'd vote for the rock, given that a rock wouldn't make things worse.

But somehow he did manage to make things worse.

Jeesus H TBL.. I see you have pretty much monopolized the conversation..

Only in your last couple of posts do acknowledge that you don't have a dog in the fight.. that you are a Kiwi I believe.

And you are trading dangerous ground with your remark about the BLM movement.

How are things with your Maori citizens? The ones your people marginalized through force of arms..

Fascism is not a deal-breaker for Trump's MAGA supporters. (See above for a number of evasions and deflections.)

Heck, it's a feature.

Kevin McCarthy going for house speaker voted to not certify the election after the January 6 coup attempt, a promoter of the big lie, in the recent midterms there is a trend to reject such people in general elections, but the infection persists.

He did have a "super majority"... Yet he managed to accomplish very little outside the conservative norms of tax reduction for the rich and packing courts. So much for your "Washington outsider" theory...

I have no interest in listing the good things that happened to the US while he was POTUS lest I get the usual but, but, but response, but good things did happen during his time, admit it or not.

Majority or not he was hobbled by continual yet ineffectual attacks from the start of his term, the worst of which was caused by that <deleted> <deleted> sessions recusing himself instead of resigning.

Whatever he may be, he didn't make up lies about another country and invade it with the deaths of many American soldiers resulting, like another president did.

In fact, the only "war" involvement he had was to set in motion the withdrawal of allied troops from Afghanistan.

BTW, the only point of him being a Washington outsider was that millions of people hated Washington enough to elect him over a politician that was the very essence of a Washington insider.

I doubt they care whether he says truth or not, but he is a stick in the eye of Washington, so they'll support him for that alone.

I assume those that vent their hatred of Trump on here support Washington politicians in preference, but those that support Trump must really hate that establishment and all who reside in it.

The consequences of this are so profound they override practically every other consideration, unless of course you simply don't care about life on earth after you depart.

While wildly off topic, you mentioned it so I should respond. I care about life on planet earth, but humankind has destroyed the environment and will pay the price for doing so. IMO it's about far more than climate change, and more about overpopulating and over exploiting resources. Likely to be wars over water to come in the future.

If it should come to the worst for human kind, the planet will survive quite well without us destroying the environment.

IMO fascism became popular and was supported by many millions in Europe as a reaction to the "establishment" politics.

Are you surprised that present political establishments from Italy and other European countries to the US are so unpopular?

Ah, but was it he that made it worse, or the opposition's continual attacks that did so. As an outsider, it seemed that Trump consumed the opposition so much they forgot that they were supposed to be making the country better for the people that lived in it.

BTW, "opposition" applies to all that opposed him whether Democrat or GOP.

And I left out the most egregious example of his slimy lowliness...

The fraudulent Trump University! Which wasn't a university at all, but rather a con-job.

Gypped his students out of their money, as they fell prey to this Con Man. He was sued and he settled, while president, and agreed to pay back $25,000,000 to those he conned.

Also remember him stealing from charities. He admitted to it and was ordered to repay $2,000,000 due to misuse (aka stealing) of funds from charities. Can't get much lower than this lowlife.

WOW, he really lives in your head! I probably dislike Hillary more than you do Trump, but I don't spend my time listing the bad things she did on here.

Given what is going on that unfortunate region, I think peace is a word I would not use to describe it.

Perhaps you don't watch Al Jazeera to see what is actually happening.

You are looking at it all wrong IMO. Don't look at them supporting him personally, but hating Washington so much they''ll vote for an outsider, even if they wouldn't have anything to do with him as a person.

I'm sure you've heard the term "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".

I'm pretty sure they still hate Washington.

But there is little that can be done about that.

One party or the other must occupy the Presidential ' seat of power ' and that happens to be in Washington DC
