DPM and health minister Anutin Charvirakul defended his plan to allow Chinese nationals into Thailand without health checks or balances from next Sunday when the Asian giant eases travel regulations.

Anutin said that the decision was based on sound information and Thai medical capabilities and was not pressured by the state of the economy.

He confirmed that the Department of Disease Control were handling everything that would be done to Thailand's well known international standards, reported INN

It's one thing to move on, it's another to import hundreds of thousands of patients and overwhelm the medical system so that your own people cannot be taken care of.

  • And Australia along with the other countries implementing restrictions are overreacting.   The sky is not falling.

Thai medical capabilities my arrrrss, he suffers from short term memory loss, he should look back when the Covid was spreading at high speed and the hospitals could not cope with the number of deaths and infections

An excellent rational plan. The most important thing to do about covid at this point at the National level is to stop talking about it.

It is an endemic respiratory disease world-wide.  Like colds and seasonal influenza. So yes it could be deadly. Take your jabs. Follow medical advice and basic precautions. If you are at high risk, maybe you should stay home or in a care facility. The virus is never going away. Time to move on

And he would be the heir for the next PM??? OMG what a man with brains of a ostrich..

So the rest of the World is wrong , most countries demanding that any

Chinese have been tested before they leave their country and don't have

Covid.

Important hundreds of thousands? ???? Won't happen here.

Border restrictions don't work.

A couple of hundred thousand out of the five million expected? Easily could happen. In fact, Chinese hospitals are so overcrowded with no availability that I can see some Chinese coming to Thailand in order to get treatment. Yes, people with just a cough and fever can overwhelm any country's medical system, if they come here to take advantage of the "insurance."

Is Anutin planning to refund all money paid for his quarantine? Apparently he is saying that it was unecessary now

There are plenty of 7-11s in Thailand to dispense paracetamol to “people with just a cough and a fever” and that’s as close to Thailand’s “medical system” as they need to get.

Completely different situation now.

Bangkok Post reports that Thailand will once again require proof of two covid shots for all visitors. Also health insurance is required of all visitors whose next destination requires a negative antigen test. And what of us who have had two or three shots in Thailand and the app that used to display the record of our shots no longer works???

I can almost see the meeting.

Anutin: "We mustn't discriminate against the Chinese."

Minister of Sport: "But Everybody Else is doing so."

Minister of Food: "We mustn't discriminate against Everybody Else."

Anutin: "Let's discriminate against everybody!"

Minister of Submarines: "Hold on there, professor. Everyone's had two vaccines in China, right?"

Anutin: "Er ..."

All Together: "Brilliant! Two vaccines or no entry. Fairness for all."

Minister of Tourism: "Didn't we try that before and wreck our tourist ... "

All Together: "Shut UP!!!"

Can it really be that after 3 years, the madness is still getting worse?

Well maybe it'll be some good news for some people. Covid extensions might just make a comeback too!

So that means all the foreigners from the west who are unvaccinated will now not be allowed entry to the Kingdom?

I can see this playing out very badly for tourism.

The unvaccinated that wanted to come for a holiday will just cancel  rather than be vaccinated because  they hold strong anti-vaccine views

Tell ne this is not the case?

Hard to tell really. Things change here literally overnight. Proof of shots would be a catastrophe. Cannot imagine they'll really do it.

Could be many vaccinated as well,  for the sake of principle. I would choose a destination without that requirement.

Ostrich is a creature where every part of the body is supposedly valuable in commercial terms & nothing goes to waste.

I mean, don't insult the bird

Its always about the economy..

Thailand is gagging to get masses of Chinese back into the country.

And TAT will be telling us every day how much they are spending...

Not about the economy BS
