Thai monk raped his own daughter, 14, after arriving to "Give her New Year blessings"

Despite a family history of sexual abuse fourteen year old Naen was not concerned when her father Wirachai, 42, a monk at a temple in Samut Prakan, arrived at her rented room.

 

He said on December 28th that he wanted to give her New Year blessings.

 

She pulled up the chairs to make him feel at home.

 

Then he grabbed her and violently raped her.

 

"This is the way you have sex," he boasted. 

 

Prior to this shocking incident "Naen" had only had a relationship with a female partner, reported Daily News.

The family of Naen, after becoming aware of what happened to her, went to the police and later decided to go public with the help of the social action group Sai Mai Tong Rort.

 

Its admin Ekkaphop described how Naen was attacked and what happened thereafter including threats made by Wirachai the monk to shame his daughter with video clips if she told what had happened.

 

Police at North Samrong station were prompted into action and went to a temple in the area where they arrested Wirachai, defrocked him, then took him in to face rape charges against a minor not yet 15.

 

There was fury outside the police station as he arrived with relatives hurling abuse.

The relatives said that Wirachai had split up from Naen's mother ten years ago.

 

Later Wirachai had ordained as a monk. He had been a monk for five years but would pop out to see his daughter.

 

They described him as a playboy who had never given up sex while in the monkhood. 

 

They hinted at long term abuse by the father in the family that is now set to be aired in public. 

 

Naen's mother has reportedly gone to work abroad.

 

She was taken to the Samrong Neua police station with her aunt.

Begin and end with blaming the monk who was the perpetrator. According to the OP he seemed to have a history of long term abuse by the father in the family that is now set to be aired in public.

Just supports my impression that too many "problem characters" hide in the temples.

Not an ideal situation, of course, but I'd guess that it is a room provided as a home for her by her mother while she was working abroad to support her as her ordained father probably couldn't.

I mean "hiding" in temples with dubious history or psychosis, petty crime or serious crime.

Hiding with a history of having sex with females, drinking, drug abuse and so on.

Many 'monks' are criminals only there to 'redeem themselves' after committing a crime. Monkhood in Thailand is not all it seems to be to an innocent outsider.

Being raised Catholic I equate donning an orange robe to going to confession.  You're the same person inside who walked into that confessional; or, put on that robe.

I have an adopted son who had been a "Naa Neen" (young monk) and did his apprenticeship (a little over a year)under the guidance of what appear to be responsible, respectable Elders at the temple. Fortunately they were an honorable temple of elders and benefited my son's future afterwards. It's very sad that there are individuals who hide and do harm to the unsuspecting and innocent in society. But the stains of society do reminds us to be on our guard and expose them to all. They deserve this at the minimum!

Should the governments of other countries close down their churches as well because of sexual abuse in the clergy? I'm not defending anybody here, just trying to keep it real.

It is not just sexual abuse, it is the whole attitude of a lot of the monks.  Does anyone remember where Suthep went as soon as the courts started looking for scape goats to hide?

 

How about the jet setting Monk that went to hide from the authorities in the U.S.

 

The monastery was a gambling den.

The monk was so sloshed that he passed out on the street.

Also, I do not understand how monks are supposed to be living lives of poverty and such but are buying iPhones and shopping for computers and tv's.  

 

I am not saying that any of the other religions are that much better but there definitely is a huge lack of self-regulation in the Thai Buddhist lifestyle.

 

Also, there was a big to do about the monastery that was supposed to have been laundering dirty money.

 

Really just like the catholic church did/started it probably would not be a bad idea for the government and the sangha to take a thorough look at how people become a monk and why.

subjected to, which is to be condemned in the strongest
