Popular Post FritsSikkink Posted January 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2023 Lets try to get the story line together: "he was targeted by a local gang who spiked his drink." "Carl said he had just secured accommodation in Pa Tong" "Carl found himself in a two-day frenzied delirium after allegedly having his drink spiked." "More than 48 hours later, Carl returned to a normal state ... He used the shop names to retrace his steps to his original accommodation." "when he tried to confront the muggers -....." "When he arrived he ended up being met by cops, who threw him into a police van " "During the drive, Carl said four police with metal poles beat him, ...He said: "I thought I could take it, ..... At that point, I stopped resisting" ""I found a lighter, which I used to light some rubbish on fire" Guy goes for a drink, says he got drugged. After 48 hours feeling better, goes to his original accommodation (where was he during the 48 hours?) sees he got robbed. Goes to confront the muggers, meets police with metal poles (they use them to control people who are not acting normal), resists arrest (arrest what for?). Gets into a jail cell and sets it on fire. Gets beaten up again. 2 1

Well I for one am far better off in 2023 than I was in 1970 lol I just realised I was at school then... so I'll say 1980 or even 2000 when I was in a very good "IT" job in London I'm better off now. 2 2

Liverpool Lou Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Fanciful garbage, in the extreme, designed to get paid by The Sun for another over-dramatic, embellished, left-out-a-lot story. Just my opinion but I'd put money on it. 2

pedro01 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I was with him up till "set a fire in my cell", which has to account for at least 1 beating. 1

RichardColeman Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Sorry, but looking at the guy I can believe the police on this one When Carl got to Pa Tong Police station he was locked up on bogus cocaine charges.

We saw what British authorities are capable in their desperation to get trade benefits for their sinking economy when the British foreign office and police jointed hands with corrupt Thai police and Southern mafia to frame two Burmese for the brutal murders of two British kids in order to let the son of a local mafioso on Murder Island off the hook. The British coroner even mumbled some nonsense about being careful not to jeopardise relations with Thailand. Befuddles me why so many Brits still go to Koh Tao after the incident above. I've boycotted the place since I don't feel like giving this island any money after these shenanigans. Boycott the place and let their economy go to hell. Let others know too. 2
Aussieroaming Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 If he was drunk and drugged up they might have just put him in a cell until he was coherent. Anyway glad that he is out and can mend over time.

Im a person who understands Thailand fairly well - relatively speaking - but this all sounds silly. People who have all these stories have them all their lives - generally speaking. So there's one side of the story. I bet the other side of the story is interesting too. 2

I have been pretty drunk sometimes over the years, met many policemen and never had a problem in 40 years. I've crossed the road many times drunk. Never been ran over. Does that mean nobody else can be ran over drunk too?

spidermike007 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 If this story is true, the only way to get any sort of resolution, would be to personally go after the rotten cops. The legal system here is rotten to the core, the government protects these goons at all levels, and they think they are untouchable. Ha! 1
geisha Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 So all was fine, he booked a room/ condo , then what happened ?
aussienam Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 If true, this is a horror story of extreme Thai police corruption and akin to the Joe Ferrari style brutality. A proper investigation of course would be able to gather evidence to indicate whether or not this man's account of events is indeed true, partially true or untrue. If it was indeed true however, a proper investigation would not likely occur. A Catch 22 of sorts to make this man's report open to continual speculation.
thaibeachlovers Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I don't know what to believe, but I don't believe that Thai cops go around beating farangs up without a reason. There has to be more to this than published. BTW, I've been aware of the spiked drinks thing for over 30 years. Do people really go traveling without any sense of caution these days?
