    Yup - I have done that train journey to Nong Khai a few times before and yes in hindsight it would have made more sense.   Its my Bad, that will serve as experience for future decisions.

    Great report, but since you seem to like trains, you could have saved yourself quite a bit of hassle by taking a train to Nong Khai and crossing the border to Laos there instead.
