Bentley driving tycoon: "I wasn't drunk" - it was just 1-2 small glasses of Champers

The super rich tycoon who drove his Bentley into the back of a Pajero on Bangkok's expressway told the Thai media Daily News that he wasn't drunk.

Suthat Siwaphiromrat said he was not a serious drinker due to intestinal gas problems.

He had been at a function where 4 people shared a bottle of champagne, he had had one or two small glasses of the beverage.

Asked about several empty wine bottles in his car he explained that was to do with a girlfriend of a friend who like the look of the empty bottles.

He said that after the accident there were "30-40" rescue personnel on the scene all arguing.

Amid the chaos he started to feel ill and wanted to go to hospital.

Also his female companion, who had just had a nose job, was bleeding.

He didn't turn down a DUI test at the scene, and he didn't flee.

He just wanted to get to hospital and have a blood test there.

He'd already had a rep pay out 100,000 baht to the injured party. He would get him a new car if necessary.

He said that the accident really should have been just a minor scrape. It was made to look worse than it was because the fire truck piled into the wreckage.

Meanwhile despite earlier reports that Suthat had not tested over the DUI limit he still faces DUI charges.

The South Bangkok court accepted charges of drunk driving with the court accepting that by refusing a roadside DUI test there was a presumption of drunkenness.

He has also been charged with negligent driving causing serious injury and damage.

Thai Rath reported that he was bailed by the court in the sum of 100,000 baht yesterday.

They pictured him leaving in a taxi.

The millionaire whose Bentley crashed into an SUV on an expressway may have been drunk at the time of the crash, according to a blood test administered several hours later, according to social media users who are accusing police of – once again – helping a millionaire avoid the consequences of illegal and socially destructive behaviour.                                         Backlash surges online over ‘drunk’ millionaire’s car crash (nationthailand.com)

The laughter will ensue but until (worldwide) there is a standard drink drive limit and to exceed it ensures a (mininum) 1 year custodial sentence on the spot then the carnage will continue

I dont care what people think if you know yourself that a simple road side Police block could send you to the monkey house on the spot and with car/bike confiscated then you will heavily stop people doing it not just in Thailand but everywhere....you'll never stop some but you will stop a lot

Bang em up seriously. And dont get me started on drug driving, Thats 10 years on the spot lol

A man that has wealth has no excuse to drive under the influence as they can well afford a driver to take them from bar to bar .

How much champaign he drank is of no consequence , it will be the level of alcohol in his blood on what sentence he should receive and of course allowing for the two hour delay in taking the blood test .

Now he wants to blame the truck for running into his handy work . Had he not driven into the car the truck would of not had a accident .

The rich always get a way out... no drinking, refusing a test, although no problem if only 2 champers were drunk, he wanted a bloodtest after many hours, he paid already 100.000 THB and want to pay for a new car, and a lot of excuses why reacted like that.. probably he was not speeding too

He was probably getting a nose job while driving, who nose.

The accident is the result... the proof of dangerous and reckless driving in is the footage from the dash-cam of a following car - that’s damning enough.

Well, which was it, 1 or 2 ???...

A BAC of 20mg 5 hrs later implies approximately 8 units were consumed....  thats more than one or two glasses of ‘champers’...

The real issue here is obviously DUI, but the other major facet which seems to be overlooked is that he was driving like an utter lunatic.

Huh? While many men in Thailand, who have not been blessed with the ability to mature, as fully developed human beings, will make an excuse, and attempt to obfuscate the truth, this one is beyond believability, and completely lacks any possibility of being real or credible. It is bizarre, at best. He would have been better off just keeping his silly mouth shut.

Perhaps...  But I doubt he was drinking in his car...

The excuse of having ‘some’ empty wine bottles in the car seems plausible... i.e. that the GF of a friend wanted them - fair enough.... But that does not mean he [the Bentley driver] had no part in consuming the wine from said wine bottles...

The vast majority of establishments have CCTV...  I’m not sure where they were drinking, but if its in a public place (i.e. bar or restaurant) it could be established how much he had to drink.

Yes.  From the OP...

"The South Bangkok court accepted charges of drunk driving with the court accepting that by refusing a roadside DUI test there was a presumption of drunkenness.   He has also been charged with negligent driving causing serious injury and damage".

That would override a blood alcohol test that's already been done?   I don't think so.

In Thailand many accept anything they're told - you know, the old don't ask questions culture taught since early childhood. It's only foreigners like us who ridicule them for spouting such nonsense, which to some Thais is why they don't like us and consider us troublemakers. The above excuse is the standard that a four year old would make up.

As long the RTP does not treat everybody equally, this country will never lose his 3rd world image.

In Thailand the rich always walk away.
