Many Pattaya Restaurant Owners Still Suffering from Financial Problems, Hope Chinese Tourists are the Solution

Pattaya – Some restaurant owners, especially seafood, in Pattaya are still suffering from financial problems and they are hoping to see Chinese tourists arrive in large numbers to help them keep going on.

Mrs. Premwadee Saekoaw, a restaurant owner at ‘King Seafood’ on Walking Street, told the Pattaya News “There are more foreign tourists visiting Thailand and Pattaya after Covid-19 restrictions have been relieved. However, restaurants on Pattaya Walking Street and in the Pattaya area are still overall quiet. When comparing restaurants before Covid -19 only about one out of three restaurants have recovered well so far. Many of the restaurants yet to fully recover are seafood venues dependent on Chinese tourists.”

 

“Only Russian, Domestic Thai, and Korean tourists that order buffet or hotpot style in restaurants are doing well currently, while most other foreign tourists eat only a single plate in a meal as they are more careful on their expenses,” Mrs. Premwadee explained.

A few things... There are more tourists, bt not the number they want us to believe, another thing is the price and quality and quantity.. if they serve normal prices with normal portions and eatable food, a restaurant will sell.. But too pricy for a little bit, or not good food ..... you won't sell that is all over the world the same. 

And of course the expensive THB makes that people have less to spend.. There is a difference if you get 37 THB /USD or 30 THB/USD, as everything is getting more expensive already. 

Business is taking risks, you can win and you can loose..but good management and a view can solve a lot too.. Be inventive

Strange times, I am in Sukhumvit now and many hotels are full and overpriced while a meal at Monsoon cost 30% more than last year. Seemingly the indecent attraction of Thailand will last for ever, whatever the price.

The Thai all you can eat Seafood restaurants are packed. Mostly locals but I’m sure that will change when the Chinese bus loads come back. Unfortunately the nicer high end restaurants charging silly prices will fail. The baht is strong and people are more on a tighter budget than before. 
Many people are going to Tree Town now as it’s much cheaper than walking street. Sure you’ll get a lot of walking traffic but very few spenders. They should have bulldozed down 1/2 of it when they had the time and business were shut.

if the business model is not in sync with the customers preferences you need to do something.

I was at a restaurant in Soi Diana yesterday and the place was packed, people queueing to get a seat. I guess their restaurants are empty because they are selling dodgy overpriced seafood.

Indeed, the most popular good seafood places some 10 km north or south of the Pattaya RLD.

The only ones making money are the big Chinese buffets boats  floating in the bay , and hotels losing money by the hordes at breakfast
