Depending on how many followers she has back in Taiwan this could have negative consequences.  On an unrelated matter yesterday I saw an EVA Air Airbus 330 takeoff corm CNX airport. My guess is traffic to and from Taiwan is pretty good.  We shall see if this negatively affects arrivals from Taipei.

My point was when was the last time you shared Pizza or any other western with the Thai Police?

The pizza in question my lud was a take away pizza from the Dukes which we scarfed whilst driving because were both hunger and late. I rest my case.

Which justifies taking her off alone into a corner and demanding money? If they suspected she was in the country without a visa then they should have called in the immigration police. If she had "illegal substances" on her then she should have been charged and detained 

 

This was simply extortion. Perhaps she should or could have a stood her ground, but she was probably terrified, they had removed her from her peers ( undoubtedly having identified her as the one with ????, possibly found whilst searching her bag that she was carrying B27000 in cash - it seems a random amount to demand otherwise); she was in a foreign country and being threatened by a known corrupt police force.

 

Numbers of tourists from Taiwan will take a hit, all so a few coppers can make some cash. Nothing will be done.

Unless the rest of the world's tourist spots have gone to <deleted>, or run out of places, highly unlikely. I still don't know what the draw is for Thailand.   Especially repeat, yearly visits.

Station commander should investigate that case. And the case of 5 female koreans who were there at the same time. Just to clear police name. 
There should be some police record and cameras can be checked. 

Those social media posts might be shared in mass, translated. And it's thai who share those posts. That shows that they do believe such story and are afraid something similar can happen to themselves. 
 

Thaiwanese are using chinese language, chance of spreading this story to mainland china social media is high

Does the thai police station where she was taken not have cameras that record people coming and going and interrogations? 

 

It would seem unusual these days if she or her friends did NOT at least try and record a video of the initial stop/demands.....so seems believable to me that cops did not want that video to remain in her possession.  Why would they be concerned with being videoed if did nothing wrong?  In fact they should WANT a video to prove their innocence or whatever it is they claim they found that involved going to police station and paying $$.

 

If all the gal wanted was social media fame a video is almost a requirement to go viral so of course she or her friends would be filming away.

 

And if korean tourists were also there check the police station cameras to ask what that was all about.

 

If Thai police honchos cannot get to bottom of such a simple charge good luck ever doing any real police work.

Was just re reading to prison book send them to Hell about a Brit here who was set up with 5 kilos (he claims) by the cops in BKK, sentenced to death, he got out after 17 years. While first detained he tells about 2 Japanese girls in the cop station who were picked up on planted drugs and blackmailed by the police for sex in the station to be 'let off'. Could be made up but knowing what goes on here more likely true. Decades ago but are they any better now killing suspects with bags over their heads trying to get more bribe money out of them, what happened to Ferrari Joe anyway?

I've had the police try and scam me in Thailand a few times. However I stand my ground if in the right but if wrong I cough up. My wife and I had this on the Cambodia border "A Shake Down" taken to a porter cabin inside Cambodia surrounded by armed police passports taken and money demanded to get them back. Very intimidating and scary. Yes I believe her and what the police saw was cash in her bag!!! Disgusting Thailand Disgusting.

Unfortunately the police station logbook in use that night is now full up and has been filed away. The keys to the filing cabinet have been mislaid. The policemen on duty that night are on leave/retired/posted elsewhere and cannot be contacted. The cameras were broken/away for maintenance/ pointing in another direction and anyway it all took place three weeks ago and the hard drives are wiped every 10 days. Nobody remembers any Korean or Taiwanese girls, anyway they all look the same. The only thing one can say with any certainty is that the constabulary would certainly not do anything like this, so relax, it is probably fake news or defamation.

 

In other news, another 3,000,247 Chinese tourists are expected to arrive in the next 27 days. Just as well that the Taiwanese and South Koreans aren't coming in any numbers any more, TAT doubt that they could cope.

been stopped many times by the police but they never asked for my visa nor they have commented on it, got extorted and fined for not wearing helmet but was never asked for my passport of visa, only asked for DL... smells fishy, what type of police stopped her

I have been stopped at the toll plaza entering BKK demanded 2000 when I refused I was made ti sit there with no explaination until after 4 hours I paid up. You try refusing see for far you get? We have lives to live being held by cops with the sole purpose of extorting money is not funny. Try it some time!

You might like to think that's the way things are here but if ever you visit you'll soon realise it isn't. And if ever you'd seen the inside of a jail cell here you'd know they aren't as you described them....although I admit your post will appeal to others who also don't know!

I've been here twice as long as you and it's never happened to me. But I know plenty of people who have been shaken down, especially in Thong Lo and tourist areas. Experiences of long term residents are not necessarily reflected by tourists and/or those who have been here just weeks or months and especially those who can't speak Thai.
