Russian tourist gets her precious earrings back: "I didn't make a mistake coming to Thailand"

Daily News reported that a Russian lady had been reunited with her precious earrings that she left in Phuket.

She had the tourist police and an honest maid to thank for the return of her 70,000 baht jewelry.

Earlier Lt-Col Phuttapong Wongwattanadech of the Koh Samui tourist police had received notification from his men that a lady called Yelena T., 42, had left her earrings at the Khao Oat Airport hotel in Thalang, Phuket.

The tourist police in Phuket were contacted and they went to the hotel where the pair of earrings had been left with customer services by a maid who had found them in a room after the tourist checked out.

 

The hotel had been unable to contact the tourist after she left on January 23rd.

It was all smiles as Yelena praised the tourist police in Samui and Phuket as well as the honesty of the maid.

She said that she didn't make a mistake choosing Thailand as her holiday destination.

Russian tourist in Phuket re-united with 70,000 baht earrings

The Daily News reports on the reunion of a Russian woman and her beloved earrings, valued at 70,000 Baht, which she left in Phuket.

 

The woman, referred to in the Daily News article as Yelena T. is 42 years old. She says she is grateful to both the tourist police and an honest maid who played a role in the return of her jewelry.

 

The story began when Lt-Col Phuttapong Wongwattanadech of the Koh Samui Tourist Police was informed that Yelena had left her earrings at the Khao Oat Airport Hotel in Thalang, Phuket.

 

The tourist police in Phuket were promptly contacted, and they went to the hotel where the earrings were being held by customer services, after a maid had found them in the room following the tourist’s checkout.

 

The hotel had been unable to contact Yelena since her departure on January 23rd. However, the reunion between the woman and her earrings was a joyous occasion, with Yelena praising both the tourist police in Samui and Phuket, as well as the honesty of the maid.

 

Yelena expressed her contentment with her choice of Thailand as her holiday destination and stated that she “did not regret it after all”.

I would have thought anyone could see through this, its not a news item BUT it will be on of many to try and "restore confidence" without tackling the real issue of systemic corruption throughout the force with payments made up and down to circumvent the law.

I'm suspicious of the taxi stories but I recently lost my wallet containing about 30,000 bht at Chang Rai airport and it was handed in to admin  , very thankful not a satang missing, maybe lucky maybe because of security cameras but all good.

Following such a spell of negative publicity for the Thai Police even the most uncynical of us predicted a series of ‘positive stories’ and this is exactly what we got. 

 

It was less than 24 hours ago on another thread that people (myself included) were predicting the onset of ‘positive police’ stories...

I think there is every reason and its not bashing Thailand, at worst its pointing out the mysterious events that always seem to magically appear after a Thai Bad Press Day or week. Regular as clock work tick tock!
