Prawit Airs Dissent To Use Of Force Against Lone Woman In Prayut’s Presence

IN A RARE COMMENT on government action, Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan today (Mar.15) expressed his dissent to a use of force by police against an elderly woman in the presence of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

 

That referred to Monday’s event in which the lone woman, namely Wanthana Othong, 62, was shouting explicit words and raising a three-finger salute at Prayut in a prearranged venue during his visit to Baan Pong district of Ratchaburi.

 

A policeman, assigned among others to provide security for the visiting premier, quickly shut up the woman protester with a hand used to forcefully cover her mouth, an arm locked around her neck as she was dragged off the scene.

The ongoing Prayut-Prawit variety has been quite entertaining - in a Lakorn Thai kinda way.

Pathetic. Pray-hoot simply cannot take any criticism and that's why Military Generals should not run domestic Government, and Military stay out of domestic politics. They know nothing except dictatorially commanding "obey or else".  Too bad that Thailand has to endure repeated repression and stagnation because of so many coups and Military governments.

The authorities perpetrating this violent assault on an older woman knew what they were doing was reprehensible. The official (police? army? ISOC? SBB191?) deployed an umbrella to hide the assault.

 

I'm reminded of the lad quietly reading 1984 while eating a sandwich, being dragged away by the police. Or the Hunger Games-inspired three-fingered salute.

 

You know a government or institution has no real legitimate claim to power when they are frightened by one single individual, or a simple silent display. They know how weak they are, and they fear their own citizens.

Never raise your voice or display "embarrassing" actions, toward a member of the "sacred institution" namely, the RTA.

I'm sure Prayut would like to have seen a much more severe response from his guards though.

Time for stages to be set up, intersections blocked, marches and mud slinging to begin as well as protests which in fact did start again yesterday in Bangkok.  There is no such thing as a Civil democratic election without discourse and such in this country as past history dictates unless it was done under Marshall law.

Yet another chilling incident.  Despite the constitutional changes made in 1932 Thailand has made little progress to date towards becoming a democracy.

IMHO this is also:

- Police wanting to please the PM.

- Police with no knowledge that there's such a thing as freedom of speech

   and in the local scenario believe it's their duty (regardless of laws) to

   forcefully stop any attempt to criticize the glorious PM who is after all a PM and must be glorified     and the public shown that he can't be approached or criticized.

- The PM continuing to encourage the police in what ultimately amounts to 

   building/protecting the glory of the military.

 

Sadly I don't see a new PM as a result of the upcoming election. The military are placed so that the PM (overall the military) remains as is. 

 

It's a long road.

But is Gen Prawits 'support' of the old lady genuine? I somehoe doubt it given the recent

downwards changes in the relationship between himself and the PM.
